Actiontec GT704WG Wireless Router (gs583ad3-01) - Page 4 Questions & Answers
I have at&t dsl and
The address 192.168.1.1 Should either be your router or another computer on your network. Are you trying to connect with wireless or by cable? The first thing you want to do is connect using a cable to the router. If you can connect to the router using a cable and you can search the web then you actually have internet through the router not just a light. If your putting a router in and previously you where only using a direct connection to your computer you may need to contact the Service Provider and give them the MAC address of the router so they can Authorize it on the network. If you can connect and search on cable the next step is to check your wireless settings and make sure you have the same Wireless security protocol selected on the router that you have set up in the computer and are using the correct security key if you have chosen WPA or WEP security. I highly recommend you use one of these as it will keep others from using your network without permission.

My PC is connected to this modem/router and works
Log in on your router manager http://192.168.x.x and enable DHCP.DHCP provides an automated way to distribute and update IP addresses and
other configuration information on a network. A DHCP server provides
this information to a DHCP client through the exchange of a series of
messages, known as the DHCP conversation or the DHCP transaction. If the
DHCP server and DHCP clients are located on different sub-nets, a DHCP
relay agent is used to facilitate the conversation.
- Connect to your router (by typing 192.168.0.1 or
192.168.1.1 into the URL bar) and log in. Check your user manual or
documentation if you do not know the log-in credientials.
-
Router Setup tab
Make sure you are in the Setup -> Basic Setup category.
-
DHCP is Disabled
Scroll down until you see 'DHCP Server' - if it is disabled, select 'Enable'
-
Enable DHCP
If you want, you can change the number that the DHCP IP assigning starts.
This is optional, and is totally dependant on personal preference. In
this picture, the maximum number of DHCP clients is 3. You may need to
increase this number according to how many people will need a dynamic IP
address on your network. Once the max is reached, no one else can get
an address until one expires!
- Use the DNS servers provided to you by your ISP, or use the following DNS servers:
205.152.37.254, 205.152.132.235, 205.152.132.23; There are many DNS
servers out there. It's best to use your ISP's if possible.
-
Don't forget to save!
Scroll down and click 'Save Settings'
- Open
up the network configurations for the computers on your network
(Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection or
Wireless Connection) and select 'Obtain IP address automatically'

Compatible with windows 7
Maybe, It doesn't work because the driver you installed is for other versions of operating system. I am also using windows 7 like you so don't you worry, You can still use your old installer/driver from other versions of operating systems. Just remember that before installing any program in a windows 7 Operating System Computer, Use "troubleshoot compatibility". Right Click the Icon of your program installer first, then choose "troubleshoot compatibility". This will allow you to choose on what type operating system your program will run. Just reply back if it still doesn't work.:D rate and vote for me:))

How do i find security
The security key is the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryption key that is configured in the router's wireless settings. You need to connect a LAN cable from your computer to your Actiontec, open a browser and enter the router's configuration URL then login to the router then go to the wireless settings for this info or to change the wireless settings.
To
secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link

Forget username and password GT704WG router , I
the default username and password for configuring the router are admin and password respectively, however if you are wanting the password KEY to the wireless signal, look on the router itself, if you didn't change it to something else, it should be WEP KEY listed on the bottom. Good luck!

How do i set my " NAT" type to open for gaming?
You do not need to do anything to play online games unless you are the server. If you are the server you need to identify the ports the game uses and forward them through your router to the IP address of your game server computer.
Good luck!

You can access router setup page by entering the default ip of the router in url section of the browser(
http://192.168.0). If you have forgotten the password. You may need to reset the router. Resetting the router will take you to the default settings so that you can reconfigure your router

I upgraded the hard drive
All you need to correct is entering in the WEP key for the wireless network- you will connect, but will be unable to browse wirelessly otherwise. The WEP key is found on the bottom of the actiontec- unless you changed it to something else- at which point you would need to log into the modem to find out your WEP key.(192.168.1.1 on a working computer in internet explorer/safari/firefox, un/pw admin, password or admin, admin; wireless settings) I’m happy to help further over the phone at

Trying to connect my router
You need to verify your connection type w/ Centurylink- they may run on DHCP which is a different connection protocol than PPPoE. If you have a static IP address, fair warning: the Verizon Actiontec is historically tetchy on static and NOT to be used as a primary modem/router- it will lose settings. Will the verizon gt704 w6
Theoretically yes. It would be under the advanced settings- you would have to change the VC configuration to the settings that AT&T run on. However, I am not familiar with AT&T's policies concerning third party modems. As for Verizon, I know they only provide passive support- and do NOT send out technicians for signal trouble if you are using a non-supported modem. I suspect AT&T is the same way.
