it is a router. not a modem. you just dont plug a telephone jack on a router because it will not fit. you have to insert a lan cable from your modem to the router, and the telephone jack is inserted on the modem

If you are connecting wirelessly, make sure the built-in airport on your mac is enabled. Then proceed with the wireless settings. Please check if the wireless settings on your airport matches the wireless settings of your router like the SSID and wireless encryption. If your encryption is WEP, you need to put a "$" sign(without the qoute) before the WEP key like $1234567890. You don't need to put the $ sign if your wireless encryption is WPA. You might as well try to connect your mac wired to the router and verify if it is online. Verify that your mac doesn't use static IP address on the airport's tcp/ip, it should be on Automatic or DHCP.

I have had this same problem with Qwest using a new iMac and MacBook on the Actiontec modem. Qwest did two things: first we reset the modem which was fairly simple and took only about 5 minutes. However, this fix lasts only a few weeks and it comes back. I have just ordered a new modem since there seems to be a problem with the Actiontec device with the newer high speed internet.
I'd try the reset before doing anything else. Good luck.

security systems can interfere, but i dont think that is your problem. If you can see the signal and its not connecting, your access has possible dropped out. Some BB sites use 10.0.0.138 as an IP address so in the browser use http;//10.0.0.0.138 this should bring up a login tyepe admin admin user and PW then go to settings and disconnect. Then select reconnect type in your username and password and exit. wait 5 mins and you should be able to connect. If the IP does not work call your ISP and get the correct sequence.

Try to replace the filter first. That will solve the issue.

Make sure that the computer is connected properly. Check if the pc is grabbing a valid IP from the router and if not assign a static IP.

It will not let me sign into MSN messenger.

You simply access the router's setup page by going to Internet Explorer and type http://192.18.1.1 it will prompt your for password, try admin by default. You can change the security key under the wireless tab and look for wireless security

First, go to your router's ip address (depends on each router)Then, login to your router (default username: admin default pass: blank or admin)
There, under tools or network security or similar to that sort, look for your network/WEP key. There, you should be able to find your network key to access the router's network, and even change it if needed.'

check to make sure the wireless zero configuration utility is on ..check from services in the computer and make sure that there is a check in use windows on the network card itself from network connections. Then it should work .

It means the same thing as password, used for secure wireless.

Go to http://www.actiontec.com/support/index.php and see if you can download the manual. You will need it to know how to set it up with the information provided by your DSL ISP.

This is a easy fix

Sounds to me as if the Actiontec GT704WG has died. If it is still under warranty, get it serviced. If it is not under warranty, You can try to find en electronic friend to take a look at it. If you do not have such a friend, Maybe someone else here can help you. But you might want to consider a new unit.

problem occurs usually after upgrade of internet speed. contact your ISP again, ask them to check for latency or dropped packets within their network. they need to run a traceroute from their end and it would also be better if you can run a traceroute from your end. also run a speedtest through speedtest.net or speakeasy.net. There's also a possibility that the modem is becoming faulty. If your ISP provided you the modem it's still best to contact them for possible replacement.

You will have to contact Frontier and give them the Mac address of the equipment and they will tell you if it will work or not ( and they will also need to put it in their system)

The default settings are:

Username: admin
Password: password

I'd try calling verizon on the issue first and have them test your line. If that comes back clean, then you need to look at any extra equipment you may have at your house (alarm systems, etc.) that could throw disruption on your line. Also make sure you have filters on your phones!
