Yaesu FT-857D transceiver Questions & Answers
857d internal battery
Yo, STAN!
Wow ~ I've looked and looked for a "internal battery" for your 857D and NONE are to be found. Older models had 'memory batteries' but your 857D (apparently) has none.
By the way, if you don't have one, here is your Service Manual:

Stan, a 81 page SEARCH for "BATTERY" had zero hits!

Best audio settings for ft-857d
Default settings should work fine. What mode are you operating in? Voltage ! Swr? What microphone? Too many variables. Not enough info.
What is causing the unit to PPT all the time?
It can be many things. The most likely I have seen is a bad microphone cord, microphone connector (either end) and last the microphone itself. Look for a frayed wire on or near the connector. It is most likely on handheld (mobile) microphones, but can happen to any. If you are using something else for input, please post. If this does not work, please post.
Yaesu 857D very poor audio out on SSB.
Dbl check your swr in am mode.. Ch your ssb power and mic gain default is 50 on both on hf .. If you use the mh-59 you will need to reduce the mic gain to 35 and it needs to be set for remote mic in the menu. Also the ssb needs to be set 2.5k wide with the ssb carrier zeroed both tx and rx
My Yaesu Ft-857 transmits ok on 2 meter. But the receive only work sometime?
Sounds like a bad receiver in the radio.
Have you checked the VSWR of you antenna system?
Did it ever work with the current setup?
If so has anything changed with the programming of the radio or the antenna system?
Does 70cm work OK?
Are you sure menu item 080 is set to "SQL" and not "RF-GAIN"?
Are you sure the receiver is not programmed for tone squelch?
Either of those settings could cause receive problems if not used properly.
What causes week receive??
this sounds like an antenna problem, another thing to try, is to run the rig through a relay cleaning cycle....hold band up and down, and turn unit on
My 857 receives fine, but when I key the mic it
I would have a look at the FT-857's extended service menu by holding in A, B, C buttons and pressing power button for a couple seconds. The default setttings are on the mods.dk website. Should also ensure regular menu settings are correct/appropriate. I can tell you that it is possible to change extended menu settings by getting RFI into radio. Also, although unlikely, it sounds like you could inadvertently have done a write to the radio's EEPROM, which can be determined by using a program such as Ham Radio Deluxe, a CAT cable, and procedures also posted on mods.dk website under how to open radio up for 60m, ext tx/rx, without any hardware mods. As to whether you can do all this while still mounted mobile,,,,,maybe with a laptop? Good luck, Link, WV4I....

Tuning dial has come adrift
Hi,The things that come loose!!!You could try one of the following:1 Take your radio to a radio workshop, and see if they can spare a part to suit.2 Take it to your nearest Radioshack or similar store and see if they have a part for it.3 If all else fails, you could superglue the knob on, but that's only the last resort.I hope I have answered your query.Cheers,Peter
