check the belkin web site for any firmware updates, but if not and it continues, like mine did, the router is faulty and i would replace with a netgear other than another belkin.

Security

losing connection will have a lot to do with location of the router itself. Usually #1 cause of loss of connection is where it is located. There are ways to boost the signal output but most of them have to do with hacking the firmware of the router with Linux code. Something the average user isn't qualified, let alone ecstatic about doing. As far as the WEP key is considered that is merely accomplished by opening a web browser on your desktop that is connected to the router and typing in the ip address of the router, should be 192.168.2.1 and hitting 'Enter'. On the page that opens on the left side there is a link for 'Security', click that. At the top of the right side of the screen choose WPA-PSK(no server) this is the most secure. For Encryption Technique choose TKIP. Next there is a place to enter your Pre-shared Key (PSK) type in what ever you like, just make sure you can remember it. It's the password for the router.

My belkin router wont work :(

If you access your router, look at the wireless settings, you may need to change a setting to allow b + g connections, your laptop may have a 'b' adapter.

Belkin N Wireless Router F5D8233-4 shuts down desktops with gigafast g wireless adapters

Make sure that the computers in error are set to DHCP for the TCP/IP properties. For the computers to see each other, the workgroup has to be the same on all of them. Each computer must have its own unique name.

For computers to be able to access each other, the computer's firewall has to be set to allow, or be turned off. The disk drives have to be set to share.

The router should have a NAT firewall. It should be turned on by default. As long as the NAT is turned on, it is safe to have the computer's firewall turned off and still be connected to the net.

No connectivity

try check the router settings..OR check your firewall, maybe its prompt you to block some access programs including your internet browser. Try to reconfigure the firewall settings located on your control panel and allow some of your trusted programs to function it properly.

No Lan/WAN connection

Unplug the router, wait 2 min, and plug it back in. If that work, on the back is a small hole, marked RESET. Using a pencil, or straightne out a large paperclip, press that the button inside gently. Hold it for 30 sec. Release and unplug the unit. Shut down the whole network. "Starting from the wall", power up the modem, wait 2 min, power up the router, and power up your machine. Your router should be at default now. Remember to reset you security, change the password, etc.
I have had to do this several times, sometimes unplugging the power, and plugging it back while holding the button. (Got 3 hand?)
Have you had a storm, or lightning issues lately? Sounds like it got a spike. Living the Florida, where lightning is very common, I have finally put my routers on a small UPS.
Good luck!

AOL instant messenger

try pluggin directly into the router (test without your WiFi).. is it still happening? If not, then the problem is most likely your WiFi settings.. you might want to try a different channel (the default is usually channel 6).. so change the settings on both the router and the computer to..say.. channel 11..

Let me know the results..

Re belkin wireless g router 2.4ghz-802

First thing to do is to recycle your Cable or DSL modem.. this is your 'gateway' to the internet, and this is the place to start.. The 'gateway' should have some lights on it which will indicate whether it is connected to the WAN (Wide Area Network)... If the light is not lit, then power the device off / on and see if you can connect now..

Also, you might want to go to the Belkin configuration pages and see if you can renew your IPAddress... if this does not work, then the problem is most likely with your ISP and you will need to contact them for support..

Let me know what you discover..

This router F5D7230-4 can I use it with windows vista

Provided you connect to the router with an ethernet cable or wireless it will be fine. However the network adapter and/or wireless adapter in your computer (the computer's side of the wired or wireless connection) may have driver issues (as in there may be none, if you are considering an upgrade to vista).

Network

as long as you are not using your own router to connect to your neighbours, as this wont work only one router on the network can connect to the net Im assuming your pc is trying to connect to the neighbours router, so you need to reset the router if you cant access it, it should have no password as default and the ip address of the router should be 192.168.2.1. get into your network cards properties and ensure obtain an ip address automatically on the TCP/IP line is selected. Go into the router settings and make sure enable DHCP is set to allocate ip addresses automatically and that the router transmits on mixed mode b and G, turn off any wep or wpa encryption until you have a connection. Do not use windows connection repair as it will totaly mess up your pc's ip addresses and stop you from connecting to the routers ip address.
