My connection is not secure

Log on to the router maintenance page by typing 192.168.2.1 into your web browser address bar. Select Security settings. Here you can change the security key.

If you have a password set to access the maintenance functions you will be required to enter it before being allowed to change settings. If you have not set a password just leave the feild blank.

If you cannot access the maintenance functions, because you cannot connect or you have forgotten the password, then you should connect a PC to the router via an ethernet cable, reset the router to factory settings (there is a small button on the router to do this) and set up the router again from scratch.

Hi..I have Toshiba laptop with

I suggest you to hard reset and configure the router settings manually to fix this issue.

A) Please follow the steps given below to Hard reset the router:

- Connect the computer to the "LAN" port on the router and connect the modem to the Internet/"WAN" port, using Ethernet cables.

- Take a paper clip, insert the paper clip in the reset hole of the router and hold it for 60 seconds.

- Unplug the power cable from the router after 20 seconds while the reset button is pressed.

- Wait for about 20 seconds and then plug-in the power cable back to the router.

- Wait for all the lights on the router to light up solid and then release the reset button.

- The power light will flash and then come back "ON" solid, indicating that the router is being restored to factory defaults.

B) Please follow the steps given below for configuring the router manually:

- Log on to the router web interface by typing in http://192.168.2.1, in the address bar of your browser.

- By default, the password is blank.

- Click on "Connection Type" in the left hand column under "Internet WAN" heading.

If the connection type is PPPOE (DSL):

- Choose "PPPOE" and click on "Next".

- Enter the user name and password given by your Internet Service Provider.

- Save the settings.

- Click on the "Home" link at the top of the screen.

Internet Status should show "Connected" on the top right hand corner of the web page. If not please unplug the power cable from the router and unplug the power from the modem, leave these both units unplugged for 1 minute. Plug the power to the modem first and wait for the modem to get ready, then plug the power to the router.

If the problem persists, please get back to us with the following information:

1. Type of connection provided by your ISP (Is it PPPOE, Dynamic or static).

2. Name of the Internet service provider (ISP).

Why does my internet speed commence at 15mpbs and

Likely the reason for this is the network card. Most network cards are 10/100, and this is typically NOT the bottle neck....100 works well for most users. Routers, and other components auto switch to accomodate the connection speed of the connecting NIC.

You may need to get a higher speed card...

I can only get internet

You need to configure the router, look at the manual that came with the router. In IE, try address 192.168.1.1, maybe 1.0 or 0.1. Not sure for Belkin. You need the default user id's and passwords. Look in the manual or download it from the internet.

How do I find my network password

You must be wired directly to the router for this
Go to Start-Run-Type in CMD <Enter>
Type IPCONFIG <Enter>
Look at the third set of numbers (Default Gateway)
It should look something like 192.168.1.1
Open up your Internet Browser
Type in the Gateway address in the Address Line <Enter>
This should take you to the Main Page of your router

Find Wireless page and then Security. You will find that information there.
Good Luck

How do you set a pass word for my wireless?

In order to get your router back to the original settings, you must push in the reset button (usually on the back of the router) for somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds depending on the router. You may need a pin or something small to push in the button, because it can be recessed. Once you have reset the router, the username and password will be changed to the defaults, admin and password, respectively. One thing you must remember is that resetting the router will change all of the router settings back to the factory settings. This means you will lose all of the changes you made since you got the router. Make sure to write down any things you've changed, so you can change them back after the reset. Also, I recommend updating to the latest firmware after the reset.

To get in to the configuration pages, you need to be connected to your router. This can either be with the Network cable, or via your wireless adapter. Start up your browser, and enter the address for your router. These differ, but for the Linksys router it will be:http://192.168.1.1
You will then be asked for a username and password. Routers will have a default for both of these. For the Linksys, it's admin for the username and admin for the password. (Look in your manual for the router's address and default username and password.) Click OK and you'll be in to your configuration pages. If you can't see any configuration pages then the connection from your computer to the router is not working. So don't blame your ISP! Time to pour over those manuals! Another thing you may need to do in the config pages is to set up wireless security. If you don't have security switched on, anyone within range of your wireless router will be able to connect to it. There are two forms of security that most wireless routers use, WEP and WPA. What you are doing here is encrypting your signals with a key. With wireless security turned on, the router needs your key before it will allow any traffic through it. No key means no access.
WEP
Wired Equivalent Privacy. This is an older form of security and is not as safe as WPA. There are programs around that hackers can download to crack WEP. Once they have WEP cracking software, they may be able to gain access to your router and get a free ride on the Internet At the very least!
The WEP key, though, will be either 64 bits or 128 bits in length. (128 bits is 26 characters, and will be mixture of the numbers 0 to 9 and the letters A to F.) If you have a Livebox from Orange, for example, then it comes with WEP security. When setting up the router for a wireless connection, you have type out all 26 characters. Get one wrong and it won't connect!
WPA
Wi-Fi Protected Access. WPA security is really an update to WEP. It uses different and stronger encryption, and so is harder to crack. It's easier for you to set up, as well, because you just need to set up a short pass phrase instead of typing out 26 letters and numbers! You should use WPA and not WEPA lot of wireless routers don't have security turned on by default. Your configuration pages will allow you to turn it on, and there is usually a help menu which explain the various security settings.

F5D8233-4 belkin wireless router. I

Follow the printed (or online) instructions to do a "factory-reset" of the router.
That will use the default ID/password, and you'll have to completely reconfigure both the "wired" and the "wireless" interfaces.

I HAVE A LINKSYS WWRT54G , WOULD I GAIN ANY THING

Hi,

Regarding your inquiry sir, the only thing I can be proud of Belkin is the stability of it's wireless signal. Now, if this Belkin router is configured to connect to a HUB, then all computers that you have within its range can be accommodated. Just make sure though that the desktop computer have their wireless cards for wireless capability, but of course as long as the router is within reach, ethernet cable would be perfect as well.

I hope it helped you. Rate for this information will greatly be appreciated. Thank you for choosing FixYa!

Need to locate the Network

You won't be able to "locate" it, but you can reset it.

With the router on, press the "Reset" button on the back of the router for AT LEAST 10 seconds, then release. This sets the router back to factory default condition. Pressing the reset for less than 10 seconds only reboots it, and does not reset the configurations.

Use your browser to connect to 192.168.2.1 and you'll get a welcome screen. Click on the "Login" and leave the password window blank. From there you can reconfigure all of your settings including the network security key. Be sure to establish a router access password that is secure.

This link will take you to Belkin's page with the user manual for your router if you misplaced it.

Hope that's helpful.
