The idle tire for your VCR is either dirty or has worn out and has stopped the tape reel from being able to move and turn and also the rubber parts need to be replaced or cleaned as ell.

It's eight years old now, and if as you say it has had intermittent use, then the battery will probably have died unless charged at last once a month.

It is defective, either send it in for repair (very expensive option) or replace it.

You will probably have to contact Toshiba direct about this.

Check battery terminals for corrosion or build ups. CLEAN thoroughly and try with new batteries.

Sometimes there is a reset button and sometimes you have to reset it through a menu. Of course, if it won't turn on, then you can't get to the menus.

Hello Charles,Just to be sure it is NOT a software issue, remove the battery then replace it back after about 5 minutes and then try turning it ON again.The error you are getting is a "zoom error". A problem connected with your camcorder's optical zoom not working, it is either it has broken parts or something is caught in the zoom mechanism.If something serious happened to it, like if it was dropped accidentally or a force was applied to it, then it is probably broken parts inside and needs servicing. Otherwise, it could be just dirt or sand stuck inside the mechanism.To try and resolve the problem with dirt/sand you can:Hold the camcorder with the lens facing the ground, then tap the side of your camcorder repeatedly.ORUse a canned air and spray it into the lens area of your camcorder.

Look Around the power switch or the bottom for a USB port.
