Aprilaire 600 Humidifier - Page 8 Questions & Answers
Changed filter for Aprilaire 600, but water doesnt flow now, how correct?
YOU SHOULD HAVE BETWEEN .250 TO.375 INCH WATER LINE ENTERING YOU'R HUMIDIFIER .THIS WILL TERMINATE AT A FLOAT VALVE.THIS IS MUCH LIKE THE VALVE IN YOU'R TOLIET.TRY PUSHING THE ARM DOWN,THIS SHOULD LET WATER INTO THE HUMIDIFIER,AS PULLING UP SHOULD SHUT IT OFF.IF THIS DOE'S NOT WORK THEN THERE (SHOULD BE A VALVE BETWEEN THE HUMIDIFIER & THE SOURCE)MOST LIKLY LOCATED NEAR YOU'R HOT WATER HEATER.MAKE SURE THIS VALVE IS ON!!! IF I'M RIGHT YOU MAY HAVE JAMED THE FLOAT IN THE OFF POSITION WHILE REPLACING THE FILTER HOPE THIS WAS SOME HELP>
Aprilaire 600 not getting a Solenoid click and no water flow at all
Your solenoid may have seized. The best way to check is remove the cover off the humidifier pad housing, remove the rubber tube of the distribution tray and see if water comes out while in the test mode. If you have a volt meter you can test to see if you have 24volts at the two wires connected to the solenoid. If you have 24volts there but no water ,the solenoid is bad if not you may have a bad humidistat or humidifier transformer depending on how it is wired.
Aprilaire 600 valve won't open?? help
hook one wire to the hum screw on the board if there is not a hum screw hook it to the green screw,go up to the humidifier then back down to the common screw on the board that should make the unit only come on when the fan is running. it sounds like the humidistat is not working correctly
Aprilaire 600 just installed and showing an error code
No, it is not an accurate statement.
These units have simple configurations They have a water supply similar to a ice making referigerator, an enclosure connected to your supply duct that houses a prop fan and media, a seperate humidistat and a drain for excess water. Your unit may also include fancy controls including an outside thermometer & humidistat to avoid over humidification that can cause problems during freezing weather. The humidistat looks a lot like a thermostat and is located in your living space or in the return duct. The prop fan in the box pulls air from the duct, through evaporation media and back to the duct. An electric solenoid valve releases water that pours over the media.
If the humidiy is below the humidistat seting and the AC/heater is running, the Aprilaire fan starts and the solenoid valve opens. I suspect the facier controls include the flashing warning light.
The warning light spells problem. Aprilaire's customer service should be able to provide guidance for the homeowner in the form of simple checks. I suspect your contractor is avoiding a warentee call and the trip it requires.
A word of caution. These humidifiers can be powered directly from your air conditioning unit control board from an auxiliary connection. If the control board isn't rated to carry the current required by the Aprilaire fan, valve and controls or the Aprilaire encounters and electrical problem, the board can be damaged. This can be avoided by using a relay. The AC board switches a low energy relay. 120 volt house power is connected to load side of the relay and runs the Aprilaire.
My board cooked at a location near this connection, but I can't be sure that the load from the humidifier caused it since four of our neighbors also lost their board. It failed the evening of a snow storm and required a costly emergency after hours service call. The next day a new board required a three hour drive. Fortunately a fan powered propane heater kept our pipes from freezing.
Aprilaire 600 bypass water flow rate
The water is only dispensing over the evaporator pad while the furnace is in the heating mode. When the furnace finishes cycling the humidifier will also stop.
My aprilaire 600 humidifier stays on when the blower shuts off
Make shure the 24 volts is hooked up to power that is only powered up when the blower is running. Some furnaces have a HUM terrminal on control (make shure the HUM is 24 volts some are 120 volts then you must use the transformer supplied with the AP 600). You can use a RP # 50 relay that senses current only when the furnace motor is running on the heating speed. Hope this helps
Aprilaire 110
Modle 110 has a relay in it see if it is stuck.Hope this helps
Aprilaire 600
If the water is always on make shure the 24 volts is hooked up to 24 volts only when the blower is on. Some furnaces have a HUM terminal but make shure it is 24 volts some are 120 volts you must use the transfomer with the AP 600. You may may use a RP50 relay. The setting 5 or 6 is about the avg setting slowly turn down to see if it shuts off .Also make shure the damper is in the winter setting. Hope this helps
No water at all
does the solenoid click when in test mode, if not check power to panel/solenoid.
If it does check that restrictor is not blocked
Low Voltage to Solenoid
The controller is faulty. The previous question was hopefully to help determine why it faulted. The switching for the solenoid is a solid state device that is allowing the 6v through but not getting turned on hard enough to supply the current to operate the solenoid. I am assuming that you checked the voltage with the solenoid connected. If you disconnect the solenoid and look at the voltage it will probably be 24v. If you are not comfortable troublshooting down to the component level a new controller will be your best bet. It may be that the transistor that drives the solenoid could just be replaced. You would have to look at the signal that drives it to determine if it is being turned on with adequate signal.
Aprilaire 600
Chech to see if the out door sensor is hood up,also take off the small panel you will see a small switch make shure it is in the correct position baypass or power. being a AP 600 it should be in the baypass mode. Hope this helps
Not getting enough humidity in the air
There are 3 things to check on the humidifier.
Check the metal mesh screen, is it wet after the humidistat is call? If it is dry the water solenoid my not be opening or the nozzle is plugged. The circulating fan blows air through the wet screen to add humidity. Does the fan spin when the humidistat is calling? There is an intake and exhaust on the humidifier. Check that the metal was cut out properly when the humidifier was installed to allow air to feely circulate?
Aprilaire 600 doesn't seem to be running at all
check list
1.check the clamp on the pipe where water line connects
is the hole clogged (water turned off)wont take long
2.Is water flowing all the way to resevoir after turnnig water on
loosen line at reservoir
3.jiggle float water should enter the reservoir inlet to float valevel
somestime cake up,clean float off
4.Remove pump cap clean impeller and standpipe
5.clean reservoir,and close everything up
Usually the hole in the pipe is clogged up in step 1 or the float is sticking if there is no evidence of water in the reservoir
