Memory card slot was tampered with by my son and memory card wont work. is this worth fixing or should i just buy another camera

Given that this is an eight-year-old camera and that camera manufacturers release compact point&shoot cameras on a one-year (or shorter) product cycle, I wouldn't consider fixing it. A new (or newer) camera will have much more capabilities and produce far better photos. If you are really attached to this camera, you can order the replacement part here.

If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

LCD Monitor remains black except in stitch assist mode

Can you see the menus?? Can you see pics in "reveiw" mode? If yes, and this is only a "taking picture" issue, then the LCD is good. You probably have a bad CCD. Canon USA will repair this for free. Go here for details. They will send you 2 emails. One with the UPS label and another with info sheets to be sent with the defective camera

No display powershot a75

Did you get a solution to your problem? I am experiencing the exact same thing with my A75. Still takes pictures and displays them for the 2 second preview, then back to black. And they download fine, too. But I get the same black screen in every mode except stitch assist and movie mode. Thanks.

My canon a75 may have a bent prong in the cf card

Possibly, see this link. And as the article mentions, the key is patience. Can't say enough about taking your time when slowly unbending the pin. Do it with a tiny little nudge at a time.

Trying to take photos but the LCD will not display

when you download the photos on to the computer are they still black? If so then the ccd imaging sensor is defective and your best course of action then is to replace the camera. If you have any other questions let me know.
thank you,

The lcd screen is on the sceen shows streaks of

If the problem is making it shut down completelly when you say it goes blak ..than it is an issue with the power..and you have to check the batteries..and either change them, or see if the charger still work s...If it has low power it will behave like this..You may check if it comes around in the view pictures mode...cause not engaging the lens ..makes it need less power and it is a good indicator that the camera is ok but has power issues..If it does, just get another battery or charger..if it is not powering in view mode it can be a lcd fault ..but when it is a lcd fault alone ..the lens are extending ...even if there is nothing on screen ..
If this is the case..and the lens are extending ..but the screen just refuses to work ..than you will need a new lcd screen ..cause this one is defected..
Another thing you may try ...if this is happening in the view pictures mode...try to remove the card from it ..and power it again ..Sometimes if you try to power it in the view pictures screen and has a issued card inside it will behave like that ..

Having bought a powershot a75

Canon doesn't make full software setups available on their web site. However, you don't need it.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as iPhoto on Mac or Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ) on Windows.

You can download the manual and more from Canon's web site at
