Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Canon ZoomBrowser or Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Take a look at it from the front and see if the flash will pop up all the way ..usually, (on other models too) this error appears when the flash is not fully popped out ..and something is on the way ..
Either manually see if you can get it out ..or ..look careful cause when the flash is out ..in the right hand side when you face it ..there is a small prong that it is not supposed to be in contact with it ..and it is actually a switch informing the flash out position ..if the flash is not all the way out ..this is slightly touching it ..and i need to be released ..

There is no power to my 350d
Hi,
If the batteries run down completely while the camera is still open, it may not start up again when new batteries are installed. But if you remove the memory card, then install the new batteries, when you turn it on it should come back to life.
Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries (if you still have your instruction manual, open it to the "batteries" section. Pretty sure you'll see a statement similar to what I've just said).
check whether your batteries are actually making contact with the battery posts, and that these posts are clean. If not, bend the posts up/down a little, and maybe clean them with a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip
How do I do this?
Having received no response in over a month, I assume this is no longer a problem.
I've had my camera for about 3 years now and have
Try getting new trusted brand batteries like duracell, And also if it forces you to change the D/T just change it. Also try getting a new memory card. (trusted brand). If none of this works then there might be a prob. Maybe someone dropped it. Try asking the company 2.
Hope this helps

If you're shooting in the full Auto mode, you are not taking advantage of the capabilities of your digital SLR. Your pictures are blurry because the shutter has to stay open long enough to properly expose the picture, but the people are moving while the shutter is open. You need to increase your shutter speed or increase your ISO, which means you have to select another mode on your camera. You could invest in a "faster" lens, which means that it can allow more light into your camera, but is also more expensive. Try this excellent tutorial on using a digital SLR, then try it out with your camera (use your camera manual to find the correct mode selections, etc.)

Look at the topics under Photographic Concepts to get an understanding of the relationship between shutter speed, aperture, and film speed (ISO).
Canon Rebel XT dial only advances one direction
I have not seen this on that model or any of the other similar models of Canon.
You have done everything I would recommend. Esp with you updating the firmware, I really think you have a hardware problem.
I would contact Canon. They do have Auth repair centers or you can contact them and send it in to the Canon factory, it depends on the repair. I just had lens repaired on my 40d, and I sent it in to CA, and it only took about 10 days.
Good luck, it sucks when something like that goes bad.

Bent memory card reader pin on canon 350d
I've uploaded an expanded schematic of the 350D to this site which should hopefully appear in the next day or two - it gives you an idea of how to disassemble without being explicit instructions.
Hopefully this will help.
What does
Probably that the memory card is missing, improperly seated, not formatted or full...
