Having to reset date and time

Solution: Replacing the date battery PowerShot A510 and A520

Replacing the Date Battery If the Date/Time menu appears when the camera power is turned on, the date battery charge is low and the date and time settings have been lost. Please purchase a lithium coin battery (CR1220) and replace it as follows.
Please note that the first date battery may appear to expire relatively quickly after you purchase the camera. This is because it is installed in the camera at the point of manufacture, not when you make the purchase. caution_a70.gifBe particularly careful to keep the date batteries out of the reach of children. Seek medical assistance immediately if a child swallows a battery since corrosive battery fluids could damage the stomach or intestinal wall.
  1. Confirm that the camera is turned off.

  2. Open the terminal cover and use your finger nail to pull out the battery holder.

  3. Pull open the battery holder in the direction indicated by the arrow (1). Remove the battery by pulling it up in the direction indicated by the arrow (2).

  4. Insert a new battery with the ( ) side facing up.

  5. Replace the battery holder back and close the terminal cover.

  6. When the Date/Time menu appears, set the date and time.

note_icon_a70.gif After purchasing the camera and turning on the power for the first time, although the Date/Time menu will appear, you do not need to replace the date battery. If you ever dispose of your camera, first remove the date battery for recycling according to the recycling system of your country.

Shut off card locked

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

My camera will turn on then go off and the lens will not go out how do i fix this?

The manual is a bit confusing. I do have a power shot, but is is a bit younger. My camera does have 2 On buttons. One to put it in shooting mode. And one to set it in display mode. If I press the display button (arrow right) the lens stays where it is and I only can see pictures I took. When I press the on off button the lens comes out. I think you only have to switch the main dial to the camera logo (shooting Mode) and then press the Disp button, to shoot pictures and if you want to view pictures, you turn the dial to playback Mode (arrow to the right) and press the Disp button. If it works, no fix, just knowledge about how the camera works. It is all in the manual.

Chances are you have dust on the sensor.
Its unlikely that you will be able to clean this sensor on this camera manually.

However you could try using a simple rocket blower via the battery compartment, this may move the suspected dust particle.

To clean this sensor manually would be a risky job if not a camera technician.

Hope this helps

I am sorry once you format a card the images are gone. most of the time. if they are real important pictures then there are services out their that can retrive them. you might want to take out the memory chip turn on the camera and see if you still have photo's on the internal memory.

I cant hear any sound from my camera. Please guide

Have you disabled sound in the menu settings? Sometimes there is the option to use a camera in silent mode (for photographing when sound would be obtrusive for example).

Canon Powershot A520: The camera it self shuts

I believe you should do a complete reset. If this can be done through the Menu all good. If not, remove the memory back-up battery for some 30 seconds and re-insert. In most cases this cures the problem. The back-up battery I think (from memory) is next to the AA batteries, a little grey cover with CR1220 stamped on it or something. Good Luck
