Lens will not retract Monitor bland.. error message turn camera off remove lens
Hi.
I experienced the lens error message after taken the camera to the beach. Sure enough, there was sand all over the lens mechanism. First, I cleaned the area by blowing air to remove all sand particles (this took me almost a day). In my case, I did not have to remove the lens from the body of the camera. Once clean from dirt, sand or any other foreign object replace the batteries.
Nikon Coolpix L 810
It would help to know if the lens extends when you turn on the camera. Assuming it does and that you have made a setting error rather than a functional issue; reset your menu settings. If you do not have a copy of the L810 instruction manual, you can download it for free at
http://cdn-10.nikon-cdn.com/pdf/manuals/coolpix/L810RM_CH(11)03.pdf. Go to page 65 and follow the reset instructions. If you still have the problem, contact Nikon Service at 1-800-645-6687 between 9AM and 8PM EST, Monday through Friday for a repair estimate and instructions.
Why I CAN'T TAKE PICTURE?
The first thing I would do is check is the battery and charger. The L810 switch will not function if the battery is too low. If the battery is old, it may appear to charge, but not hold the charge. If it is over two years old or if you leave it unused without recharging it for extended periods, I would buy a new one. The charger could also have a problem. If a new battery does not work, replace the charger; it is not expensive. If all else fails, call Nikon Service to arrange repair at 1-800-645-6687 from 9AM to 8PM EST, Monday to Friday.

Why won't my nikon coolpix l810 turn on despite having new batteries?
It could be broken but it seems more likely that the batteries are faulty or not making proper contact or theres a fault with the power jack or battery wiring
Total failure with no attempt to come on is quite rare. I would try another set of different batteries and if that fails try an external power supply. If the external supply works then the problem could be that the external jack has lost the internal battery connection, or just plugging the external supply in and out might restore the connection.
