Have you tried to call the phone and adjust the volume on the set while the call is coming in? I think the only way you can adjust the ringer volume is if the phone is ringing.

Maybe you set the Do Not Disturb by mistake. press "feature #85" or maybe you call forwarded it. press 'feature #4" or turn up the ringer 'feature *80'

If they can hear you on your speaker but not the handset, the handset is bad. If they can't hear you either way, most likely the phone is bad. Try changing it with one that works, if the trouble follows the phone you have a bad phone.
