Dl 614 , wireless connection problems

Hi, On a similar model, the advertised range is anywhere from 50-100 meters outdoor or open air. Inside the house or within the office, the walls, doors, drapes, furnitures etc obstruct the signal and brings down the range to less than half. What we have tried to improve the signal range: 1. Install the AP/Router high up not just on top of a closet or cabinet but really high, about a foot from the ceiling; 2. Approximate the very center of the various locations of the laptops and install the AP/Router there; 3. Disabled and did not use security WEP, WPA but turn MAC Filter on; 4. Use an external hi-gain omni antenna; 5. Install a second similar unit at the farthest coverage and run it as a repeater; 6. Replace the AP/Router with the new N type (which again claimed to be 4X wider and 12X faster) which made us go back to step 1. It's a love/hate experience and we ended installing more repeaters. But it works. Hope this give you an idea or two (but hopefully not the frustration nor the headache). Post back how things worked out your end. Cheers

Wired connections can't play RISK II w/wireless connections

This is because they are on differing addresses.. you may have to "Bridge" the network connections.. the Wifi is probably on 10.0.0.* and the Wired is on 192.168.0.* you need to make a "Connection" between the two so the can "See" each other. You will find how to do this in ya manual. Here is a link to help.. www.microsoft.com/technet/community/columns/cableguy/cg0102.mspx I "Googled" how to bridge wireless & wired networks router xp So if ya get stuck try a "Google" ... :)

D-Link DI-614+

If your ISP is not having problems typically a router will just need a reboot to make it start working again. Simply unplug the power cord to it, wait 10-15 seconds, plug back in and try it again.

No access to port 25 for wireless clients

What happens if you connect one of the wireless machines with an ethernet cable? Any chance you have a Firewall of AV program blocking port 25 on these machines? Have you tried Safe Mode With Networking? I'm sure you realize that is most often caused by the ISP blocking Port 25, but I assume they would have told you so if this was the case.

DSL (PPPoE) connection

Make sure you disable or uninstall any PPPoE software such as WinPoet, Broadjump, or Enternet 300 from your computer or you will not be able to connect to the Internet. Do not disable until you´ve downloaded the firmware in Step 1. Please make sure that your modem is not also a router. If it is or you do not know, please contact your ISP and change the modem to Bridge mode. Note: In some areas, BellSouth and Verizon may not use PPPoE. Step 1 Upgrade to the latest firmware. Step 2 Take a paperclip and perform a hard reset. With unit on, use a paperclip and hold down the reset button on the back of the unit for 10 seconds. Release it and the router will recycle, the lights will blink, and then stabilize. Step 3 After the router stabilizes, open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc), enter 192.168.0.1 into the address window, and hit the Enter key. When the password dialog box appears, enter the username admin and leave the password blank. Click OK. If the password dialog box does not come up repeat Step 2. Note: Do not run Wizard. Step 4 Click on the WAN tab on left-hand side of the screen. Select PPPoE. Step 5 Select Dynamic PPPoE (unless your ISP supplied you with a static IP address). Step 6 For Earthlink users, under the username field enter ELN/[email protected] and your password, where username is your own username (some Earthlink users may not need the ELN/ in front of username). For SBC Global users, enter [email protected]. For Ameritech users, enter [email protected]. For BellSouth users, enter [email protected].** For most other ISPs, enter username. **Note: In some areas, BellSouth may not use PPPoE. Ameritech users: If you cannot connect, try entering just the username (without the @ameritech.com) and then put ameritech.net in the Service Name box. Step 7 Maximum Idle Time should be set to zero. Set MTU to 1492, unless specified by your ISP, and set Autoreconnect to Enabled. Note: If you experience problems accessing certain websites and/or email issues, please set the MTU to a lower number such as 1472, 1452, etc. Contact your ISP for more information and the proper MTU setting for your connection. Step 8 Click Apply. When prompted, click Continue. Once the screen refreshes, unplug the power to the D-Link router. Step 9 Turn off your DSL modem for 2-3 minutes. Turn back on. Once the modem has established a link to your ISP, plug the power back into the D-Link router. Wait about 30 seconds and log back into the router. Step 10 Click on the Status tab in the web configuration where you can view the device info. Under WAN, click Connect. Click Continue when prompted. You should now see that the device info will show an IP address, verifying that the device has connected to a server and has been assigned an IP address.
