Mr Gorizia, you need to go to linksys.com and get the install wizard for your router. It is pretty easy to do, and I will include the generic setting tips, below:

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard from the manufacturers' website, usually for free, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

To get access, start your browser, and put 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, or other address for your unit, into the ADDRESS bar (not search box) of your internet browser. Every unit has unique access login and passwords, some are admin with no password, some are admin and admin...seek access information from the website of the manufacturer of your unit.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page before you leave it, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping this information to bottom of the router. (Physical access is usually not the security issue.)

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

5. Change the channel of the wireless to 11, and avoid conflict with landline cordless phones. (Big issue, even the neighbors can interrupt).

There are more secure settings available, all the way down to only allowing certain MAC addresses to have access. A MAC address is a digit unique to each and every network card. Like a fingerprint. Most users do not set mac address limits

You should connect to router configuration page using your web browser. Normlly the adress you should type is 192.168.0.1. If is the first time you install it or it has factory defaults you will be asked a username and a password. Type admin as username and leave the password field blank.
Now you are in router configuration page. From here you can choose a password to protect your wireless lan and a password to protect router access.

Router randomly stops sending out wireless signal

You may be getting interference from other routers in your area.
Check to see what channels the other routers are broadcasting in your area, change it to a channel that is not being used.
The location of the router could affect the signal strength, move the router away from concrete reinforced walls etc, and or move the router to a higher position in a clear space.

Why my d-link wireless limited

if you don't have internet on the connection, it will tell all connected that access is limited.
Otherwise they are using the wrong key or encryption. I'd need more information about the wireless to help (key type (wep/wpa) etc.

I have tried several times to install the DI 514

The Router should erquire no setup, unless you are trying to configure a password or name your wireless network. I would start by unplugging the router, pressing in the reset button located on the back or bottom of the router and holding it in at the same time that you plug the router in. Then let go of the reset button. This should have reset the router. Now make sure that the network cable coming from your modem is going into the port on the back of the router labeled WAN or Internet. Next, unplug your modem and wait about 15 seconds, then plug back in. At this point, you should be able to get online with any wireless device. Once you can get online, you can go through and configure the router with whatever name and password you want.

Get security key for dlink

If you are talking about a wireless PSK (pre-shared key), you can simply login to the router and change it to a new one. If you are talking about the router's login password, it is unrecoverable if you don't remember it. You can reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button for about 10 seconds while powering up. Then login to it and set a new password. You will also have to reset wireless parameters, including SSID and PSK.

Hi I would like to

You need to set the NetGear as a Access point/Repeater (if possible). You have to type in the MAC address of the D-link into the Netgear , so that the router will know where to pick up the signal. Here are the manuals to both units.
ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/DG834Gv4_RMsrc_13Sep07.pdf

http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DI-514&rev=DI-514

It would be easier if both units were of the same MFG.

One thing you can do, if you need connectivity in another part of the home/office. You can change the LAN IP of one of the units to 192.168.2.1 and connect the WAN of the unit to a port on the other. Essentially you would have 2 networks :192.168.01.and 192.168.2.1

Click on this link or copy and paste the complete link into your browser.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

I can"t sign on to my network it asks for a wpa

Open your web browser. In the address bar, type 192.168.0.1 and hit enter.

This should bring up a maintenance and setup page for your router. If you are asked for username and password you should either enter what you have previously assigned or, if you didn't set up these they will be the factory defaults which are:

Username admin
Password leave blank

You should now select a tab labeled 'Security' and this should display your WAP key.

The code they are talking about is the WEP Key. If the code was changed from factory default when you installed the router the only way to see that code would be to access the router with the computer and look at what the code is set to.

In order to get your router back to the original settings, you must push in the reset button (usually on the back of the router) for somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds depending on the router. You may need a pin or something small to push in the button, because it can be recessed. Once you have reset the router, the username and password will be changed to the defaults, admin and password, respectively. One thing you must remember is that resetting the router will change all of the router settings back to the factory settings. This means you will lose all of the changes you made since you got the router. Make sure to write down any things you've changed, so you can change them back after the reset. Also, I recommend updating to the latest firmware after the reset.
