Your HP computer may need the Drivers from the Dell Speakers to work properly.

Go to the Dell site, and find SUPPORT, then enter your Service Tag number. There you can find what hardware (including sound card) your PC was shipped with. Print or note that. Then go to the DRIVERS section, download the drivers for those specific pieces of hardware and install them.

Right Click on the speaker icon on your desktop in the lower right corner. Open volume mixer and slide bar upwards to increase the volume.

A215 has a detachable front (grey) cover. It is attached on 4 coaks (pins). Just push a flat screwdriver under it and turn slightly - the cover will go out a little. Do it around the cover - and it will be detached. You will see 6 screws (or 4 in the left speaker). You need to unscrew them all.

The speakers are inexpensive. If the wire goes into the back without a plug, it may be easier to buy new speakers. But if you can solder, then the wire can be repaired. No drivers for your soundcard, this is a computer issue not a speaker issue, contact dell, if you can understand a word they say, ask them "I have Dimension (model number here), I need to know how to install my sound drivers", if you dont know how to do this.
