It could the the select switch might be broken then or it could be because it is also broken too and you should buy a new toaster oven.

Check that toaster is on the right amperage circuit (15A is standard) and that nothing else is on that circuit at same time. If that is not the problem, then the unit is "toast" and needs to be replaced. Spare parts are not available.

They are usually a crimped on connection.

Hi, Try to set the toaster to a darker setting. this will make the toast stay down longer. But keep an eye on it as it can burn. As for the other side not working. Unplug it and look carefully at the heat coils. If there is a break in the wire you will have to take it to be repaired. Good luck.
