Dell Latitude E6420 PC Notebook Questions & Answers
I ned to unlock the bios psword for dell latitude e6420
The solution depends on whether your laptop was made before or after 2004. If it is a post-2004 model, you must call Dell Support to reset the password for you.
If it is a pre-2004 model, you can follow these steps:
Perform the safety steps in the order below.
Warning: these steps are for your personal safety and the protection of the equipment.
Turn off your computer, and then unplug the power cable.
- Wait 5 seconds.
- Disconnect all external devices.
- Disconnect any telephone or network cables from your computer.
- Press and hold the Power button while your computer is unplugged to dissipate static electricity from the motherboard.
- Before touching anything inside your computer, ground yourself with a wrist-grounding strap or by touching an unpainted metal surface, such as the metal at the back of your computer. While you work, periodically touch an unpainted metal surface to dissipate static electricity.
To use the jumper to reset the BIOS password
Note: On the Dell
Manuals page, download the
Setup Guide or
Service Manual for your laptop. Then refer to the System Board Components section for a labeled illustration of the jumpers on the motherboard.
- Ensure that your work surface is flat and clean to prevent scratching your laptop's cover.
- Remove the battery from your laptop.
- With your laptop still turned off and unplugged, remove the cover.
- To locate the password jumper on the motherboard, look for the letters PWD, PSWD or PSWDCLR.
- Choose an option:
If there are 2 metals pins under the jumper
- Remove the jumper from the pins, replace the cover, reconnect the power cable and turn on your laptop.
- After the Windows logon screen appears, turn off your laptop.
- Again, disconnect the power cable. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to release static electricity from the system.
- Remove the cover.
- Replace the jumper in its original position covering the 2 pins. This will re-enable password feature.
- Replace the cover.
- Reconnect the power cable and other connections, replace the battery and turn on your laptop.
If there are 3 pins under the jumper
- Remembering which two pins are covered, remove the jumper from those pins.
- Reinstall the jumper in a different position. For example, if you removed the jumper from pins 2 and 3, reinstall the jumper over pins 1 and 2.
- Replace the cover and reconnect the power cable.
- Turn on your laptop and wait 5 seconds. Then press and hold the Power button until it turns off again.
- Disconnect the power cable again. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to release static electricity from the system.
- Replace the jumper over the original 2 pins.
- Replace the cover.
- Reconnect the power cable and other connections, replace the battery and turn on your laptop.
You can now assign a new system and/or setup password. For more password information, refer to the Passwords section of your laptop's service manual.
Eeprom chip
You will need to replace the motherboard, there is no way around it. Sounds drastic, but a new motherboard should be relatively afordable. I talked with experts about this same problem and I figured I could order up a new EEProm chip, but they said that would not work. I myself ended up just installing a new motherboard and it was less than $20 us dollars.
Password bios
Contact Dell for a one-time BIOS password, that's your only hope.
Eject dell e6420
Eject what a Cd or DvD? If you can't get it to eject by pressing the eject on the drawer, try opening My Computer, then right click on the CD/DvD drive and select Eject. If it still does not eject you will need to straighten out a paper clip, get on your knees and look for a tiny hole on the cd drawer. Stick the paper clip into that tiny hole and push the drawer open.
How to fix my dell E4310 from freezing while im using it?
There are a number of reasons that the unit could be freezing up.
- Corrupted file(s)
- Low available disk space
- Viruses and/or malware
- Too many add-ons/toolbars/etc.
- Heat build-up
Number one is the hardest to find. So start with #2. The computer needs free hard drive space to operate. If the disk is nearly full or is very fragmented, this can slow the machine to a crawl. Check for available space and if there is plenty (20GB or more), then check for fragmentation under administrative tools. If the defragmentation tool recommends optimization, allow it to perform it and see if that helps.
For viruses and possible malware, run your virus scanner. It is always a good idea to get a second opinion on such things. Malwarebytes is a free malware scanner that works very well to find adware and some things that many antivirus programs fail to detect.
Many user feel that they have to have every bell and whistle. I've seen some browsers with 7-10 different toolbar add-ons. These almost always come with some adware and always slow down the browser. Uninstall all but the most essential toolbars for the best performance. Heat is a slayer of machines. Laptops are very susceptible to heat issue since they are often placed on beds, sofas, carpets, and yes, even laptop. Many of these units draw cooling air from the bottom and exhaust it to the side. Even those that draw air from the rear and exhaust to the side will often intake large amounts of dust, grit, and lint. These can partially or completely clog the heat sink unit and cause heat buildup of the processor. This will cause the processor to work slower and can actually cause it to thermally lockup, resulting in the need to reboot. Many units can be accessed to clean with a removable cover on the bottom; others may need to be serviced by a technician to clean.

Can you hard wire power to laptop?
NO
if you do, a noob will blow it to kingdom come. as in letting the smoke out.
the power-pack does 3 things
it has the correct DC voltage and wattages
and #2 prevents fire when the PC fails and things short inside.
and prevents huge damaging surges landing inside the PC
buy used power pack off fleabay and win.
i bet I'd mow one lawn and and buy one
