You can generate and print barcodes using uppercase letters. This way, you don't have to do any reconfiguration of your barcode scanner.

Refer to the User Manual or Programming manual that comes with the scanner. They may not offer an actual paper manual these days and the documentation may be on a compact disc. Either way, obtain the programming documentation and you'll find a section containing nothing but pages of barcodes. Each barcode has specific programming info associated with it. locate the SUFFIX setting for the scanner. You'll usually find a Suffix of (carriage return or Enter). You may be required to scan a barcode to put the scanner in programming mode first... this should be in the first portion of the programming manual.

Try re-installing the barcode scanner drivers.

I would suggest to replace the battery. Is it the smallest part and also only one which could degrade during the time.

OK try this trick . take any product lets say a tissue box and scan the barcode and see if it show the same problem?
if it is the same try to clean the scanner until we figure out something else.
if it reads it full the n the printed barcode are the damaged ones.

try to reinstall it if you have a driver for it ...it beeps cause it makes the scan ..being powered via Usb ...but it do not transmit the data cause it do not communicate to the computer ...
Try to take a look into the device manager to see if you find it by name and installed(if it is in yellow it means that is not installed)
in this case ..insert the disk that came with it .. choose the operation system you use and install the driver ...restart and try again to see if it works..
to verify it ...you get to the device manager by right clik on computer ../properties hardware...device manager

you need software to convert to barcode to text. im in the same boat right now...keep lookin ;)

Try changing the frequency that the gun uses. Ususally 83. 82, 81 are the best, but others might be better depending on electromagnetic interference.

When I connected this scanner (purchased at a great discount through eBay) to my computer using the keyboard wedge (with a ps2 connection - the round connector) I received the error message that my computer could not recognize this external hardware. I went to barcodediscount.com and ordered the usb connector for this scanner as usb connections are usually recognized. The part # for this connector is STI85-0200R. It cost 72.55 with shipping, but I received the scanner at such a wonderful price that I thought I'd chance it and try it with a usb rather than a keyboard wedge connector.
The computer immediately recognized the usb connection, and the usb connector comes with a manual with codes to enable proper scanning, but still no luck getting the data into the computer. So I called Symbol's technical support department. The technician told me to remove the rubber "boot" at the bottom of the hand held scanner (not the scanner base) by pulling on the front of it (where the 2 little round circles are). It's tough to remove, but keep at it. Then gently remove the battery and unplug it, then plug it back in and reattach the base. He said this would reset the battery. Voila!!!! Sucess!!!!

If your scanner's keyboard wedge connection is recognized (a little popup window will say that it is a Symbol barcode scanner and that it is installed and ready to use), try taking the battery out and putting it back in to reset it.
