Well i think its software rather than hardware, What program are your using and are your songs mp3, or wma. or wav.

Here is what i suggest
1.) download nero from here http://www.phazeddl.com/ just search nero

2.) install it and folly the instructions to get it activated
3.) Use nero vision express
start / all programs / nero / photo and video / nero vision
4.)create a slive show dvd
5.) drag across your photos
6.) drag across your audio
7.) right click on the time line and set your transitions and time etc. basically set it up how you would like it to look
8.) burn it ( nero vision doest that for you automatically)

its user friendly and self explationary and very very very easy to use and is gurantied to work
NB. for better compatibality convert mp3 files to wav file.
to do this open it in nero wave editor and save it as a wav file

There are two lasers, one for CDs, other for DVDs. Sounds like the CD read (and possibly Write) laser is worn out, or defective. Time for a new drive. DVDs will be fine, because they don't use the other laser at all.

connect to the internet and try to find the drivers from there... CLICK START > (right Click) MY COMPUTER the CLICK properties. THE problem is your registery or other temp files windows or the software is using. TRY formatting and reinstalling. I dont think its hardawe i strongly believe its a problem with your windows or burning software
YOu can also try anoter burning software.. BUT I THINK youd need to format to solve your problem

If clone burning is successful then rub the dvd with soft cloth and again put it on the drive. If these will not solve the problem then wash it with warm water and a detergent.

Are you saying the bios detects the drive, but when you go to My Computer you cant see the drive listed? If so, Right click on My computer and in the menu select 'manage', In the Computer management window select removable media and activate the drive. It will then show in My computer, and be able to read/write cd's/dvd/s. If this does NOT work, then update the firmware for the drive. A lot of times when you buy a new drive, the firmware on it is out of date and the manufacturer has a new firmware out for it to fix computability issues with the collage of hardware thats out there.

They must have meant motherboard drive connector. s the connector that the drive attaches to. Which the connector itself should not need drivers. It should not be the connector either, especially since the error coming back is software, not hardware.
