Toshiba Satellite 1005-S157 Notebook Questions & Answers
I have a Satellite 1005
If you are talking about wireless networking, all I did was buy a wireless PCMCIA card and install the drivers on the CD or buy a usb network adapter and do the same. I am still running Windows XP Home on my system and with bringing the ram up to 512 MB which is the maximum, it still does what I need it to do.

Touchpad needs to be turned off
Down by the clock, there should be an icon for the touch pad. Right click and disable. You will need to have a mouse attached as disabling the touch pad disables *all* parts of it, including the touch buttons down there. If you no longer have the icon for the touchpad down by your clock, there should be an icon for it in Control Panel, OR you go to Mouse in the control panel, and one of the tabs in the mouse control applet will have an option to check or remove the check from, for using the touch pad.If the issue is that it still senses your hands when typing .. you might be able to decrease the sensitivity, and there are apps you can buy (inexpensive and some may be free if supported by the manufacturer or by the touch pad maker) apps that will also disable the touch pad while you are typing, and that re-enable after you stop typing for X seconds. etc..

How do i remove the hard drive from s157
Go
here, click on the tab that says "detailed specs" it will prompt you to save the PDF, open the pdf and on the last page you'll see a picture of where the hard drive is.
It's just two screws, unscrew them and slide it out.
Hope this helps!

I lost the administrator password
Just boot from the recovery disk and reinstall. If you have files that you must keep then before reinstalling boot normally and copy them on a memory stick.

Toshiba Satellite 1005-S157 shuts down
you need to check a few things... when the fan/heatsink assembly were replaced, did you make sure that the thermal pads on the CPU and GPU are NEW/Good.... Make sure that the Heatsink GPU pad Firmly sits in the chip....
You can test the thermal controller by using a hair dryer or heat gun.... Point it onto the heatsink pipes and see if your fan spins when the pipes get hot, then remove and see if the fans slow after a minute...
You might have faulty RAM or Misseated RAM... Pull The RAM chips and reseat them...
Also Make Sure Your CPU Is Locked Down....
Periodic Shut Downs Can Be Caused By Quite A Few Different Things...
Typically it's due to Thermal Damage
Though Failing RAM or A Failing Hard Drive, Overheated Video/GPU Chip, Or Even Failing CPU can as Well Cause This Issue...
