Connecting to interent
Hello. By no means am I any kind of trained computer repair person and have no idea about changing the "bits', HOWEVER, I can think of 2 very simple things to do, either one may solve your problems. Since this "problem' developed when the computer was just sitting in a closet and not being used I would think you could fix this by tapping the F8 key while the computer is booting up. This will pause the boot and cause the OS to offer you a few choices such as 'Boot in Safe Mode", etc., etc., and "Use Last Known Good Configuration" - which is the one I would choose. Just scroll down until it is highlighted, then press enter, then it will ask you to choose your OS (operating system), highlight it and press enter then the computer will make adjustments and boot up to the last known good configuration which will most likely "fix" your problem. The only other thing I know to do is click on "Start", click on "Help & Support", click on "Undo changes to your computer with SYSTEM RESTORE", then follow the easy prompts. Depending on how much space you have alloted for 'system restore points' you may be able to choose the date you put the pc in the closet (when it had no problems)!! Either of these "fixes" are super easy yet they are powerful enough to reconfigure your setting and make your pc work again. Lots of people do not like to use System Restore but I've never understood why because I have used it a few times over the course of the last 4 to 5 years and it has miraculously "fixed" all my problems. Good Luck !!

Toshiba Satellite A45-S250 cooling fan not working
I would suggest you take the laptop apart and inspect the fan, if its covered in dust, it might be unable to rotate.
yes this is a fairly easy repair and can be done at home. You will need to find a replacement fan for it though, look at the numbers from the old fan.
Let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks,
Ekse

The cooling fan is not working
THe shutting down is your laptop's thermal protection. It is trying to keep the CPU from being destroyed. You should stop using it until you fix it, or you will destroy it.
The fans are not hard to replace and toshiba disassembly is fairly straight forward. Just get your #1 and #2 phillips head screw drivers and pay attention to how you take it apart.
Call Toshiba and order replacement fans for your laptop as they will not set you back very much.

Have you tried deleting upper and lower filters for the device.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/EN-US/
You can also try;
Locate the cdrom.inf file and "right" click on it, chose install and reboot.
If you have SP2 installed the latest version will be in;
C:\WINDOWS\Servicepackfiles\i386

Toshiba Satellite M45 Power Problem
Hi,
Your concern (auto shutting down) with Toshiba
could be caused by excessive power drain by some of the attached
devices such as the WiFi, LAN among others. On the other hand, it could
also indicate that the battery is already weak and constantly requires
charging and at times eats up most of the power from the adapter
leaving nothing for the motherboard to use. In some repairs I have
done, switching off / or removing entirely unneeded devices correct the
problem. In some instances, auto shut down is caused by dirty/clogged
airducts/heatsink of the processor, failing blower/fan and/or poor
ventilation.
Of course, it could not be ruled out that internal problem with the power supply/regulator to have caused the shut down. Alternately, there are some viruses and malwares that could trigger shutdowns.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
