Toshiba Tecra A3X Not Booting from USB CD ROM

Your laptop is apparently unable to boot up off an external usb source. Only newer equipment has this provision in the bios. Since you cannot boot up from usb the only way you can recover your unit or do a clean reinstall or repair of xp is to replace the internal drive that is allegedly defective. Replacing the optical drive is fairly easy and does not involve massive disassembly of your laptop. And any cheap drive will work provided it has the same physical configuration as the old one.

MY MICROPHONE DOESNT WORK

Go to Hardware and Sound in Control Panel, choose Manage Audio Devices, select Recording, click on Microphone and test the microphone built into your computer. If the results are unsatisfactory, buy an external (USB) microphone and plug it in.

How do I factory reset

If your computer is new enough to have this option try this ... http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm
Otherwise your computer doesn't have a "recovery partition" (basically a portion of your storage dedicated to being able to restore your computer) and you would require the factory recovery discs. If you have them, when you first turn the computer on and see the "Toshiba" screen press F12, which will allow you to select "CD/DVD", and do so with the first recovery disc inserted in your dvd drive.
If you don't have recovery discs you will need to make or order them, to make them look in your start menu for Toshiba Recovery disk creator and that will guide you through the steps.

Toshiba Tecra A3 Bios Password, won't let me past

To reset the BIOS read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

Hi ihave toshiba tecra a3

That will be because there are no drivers installed and the system just crashed.
Get your rescue disc and restart the laptop with it, putting the system back as it was. When done, go to www.toshiba.com and download the updated drivers and then try again.

The CMOS battery seems to

remove the wireless card and the modem card under the keyboard ..and you should have access to the battery ..(It may not look like the classic desktop battery ) ..Usually there is the location for Toshiba laptops ..but if you do not see it after you remove the modem card ..you will have to remove all and strip it to the motherboard...
here is how the modem will look http://www.irisvista.com/
For to get to teh motherboard..you will have to remove all from it ..battery ..hdd...disk drive ..and all the screws on the back ..including ones hidden in teh battery compartment ..in the hdd compartment ..and all the edges..and when you removed them all (including the display so thet will not stay in the way ) you snap the covers off by inserting s plastic blade ..and from a corner snap out step by step ..
I never actually opened this model ..but I opened many Toshiba laptops ..and only once I found the battery not under the modem ..

What year was the toshiba tectra A3 made

Hello qtnick, the closest date that is recorded is 2001, this seem to be when the "Tecra Series" was being put into production, I've researched many references, but there wasn't a pinpoint date on any specify model. There is mostly the focusing on the "Newer Models ie: Tecra 9 the predecessor of previous models, and the "Newest" release Tecra 11. So most models were put in to production after 2001. Thanks for your question, paul7of 9

I bought a Toshiba m105-s3064

You should be able to boot off of the recovery disc... When you first turn on the computer it should have an option at the bottom of the screen for BOOT LIST or BOOT MENU... Usually something like F12, or you can just put the disc in and see if it tries to boot to it by default, on most Toshibas it will. But try to get to that boot list, put the CD in the drive, and tell it to boot from CD.

The password you are referring to must be a windows password if it's asking for a fingerprint... you can wipe out any passwords like that by just running the recovery disc and it will be back to "new" condition so to speak.

Please let me know if you have any problems, questions, or concerns, just reply to my answer here.

Thanks,
Tim

Bios password

Some Toshiba bios passwords can be reset using the Key Disk.exe utility, to do this you need a 1.44Mb floppy disk.

Format the disk using Windows and then with a hex editor, change the first five bytes of the second sector to 4B 45 59 00 00.

Then put the floppy into your machine and boot it up, you’ll be asked for a password, just press Enter.

Then when you’re asked to set the password, type Y then Enter, this will get you into the bios configuration where you can then type in a new password.
