Toshiba equium p200d-139 gets power but wont start up trying to but fan stops and nothing,no screen activity or anything dvd drawer pops in and out so there is some power tryed another lcd but no joy

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

if its a 40 pin flat ribbon type it will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as an electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems

computers need all electrical power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

hope this helps

Unable to boot from a

First check to see if the CD is bootable. Stick it in another computer and see if it boots, if it doesn't then the CD may not be bootable and you will have to get/create another one. If it does, then you will need to move on the checking the bios.
Check the bios to make sure it is setup to boot first from a CD, then Hard Drive. When to computer boots up, you should be able to press F10 or F2, depending on the type of Bios you have. Once you get in it, on the left will be a tree which you will need to use the arrows on your keyboard to navigate.
Again, because I don't know the type of bios you have, within the first couple of options will be the boot sequence. Make sure it is set for CD first, then Hard Drive.

How can I stop my Toshiba Equium from overheating

If the air ways are clear and the fan is running fast, does it blow lots of hot air or would you expect it to blow more. Try cleaning the exhaust side of the uProcessor fan out with a vacuum cleaner and use fresh heat sink compound on the uProcessor heat sink..
If it still gives trouble, browse toshiba.com for a BIOS update to speed the fan up.
Hope that helps.

Laptop over heating

this is a laptop computer ????

This is probably a simple heating problem. if it is, you'll have to replace or otherwise repair the heatsink, and maybe the CPU as well.
In general, if this is still under warranty, your best bet is probably to just return it to toshiba for repair/replacement.

I would NOT reccomend opening the case on an in-warranty laptop
. However, in case this ISN'T a heating problem, or if you need a temporary workaround... these ideas MIGHT work. they won't be permanent solutions, though.

  1. try setting your bios, and your windows settings, to the options that use the least power. less power = less heat.

  2. If you deliberatly overclocked your cpu at some point, reset it to normal speed. or even less-then-normal speed.

  3. are you certain this isn't just a power problem, or a corrupt operating system? you might want to try reinstalling the os, and running the computer from an AC outlet, maybe even with the battery removed

I am looking to reformat the hard drive

I've had a look at the the Toshiba website:-

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/outFrm.jsp?ofId=AskIris&searchString=Toshiba+Equium+7100S+&x=9&y=8

It gives the impression that this is quite an old system. That being the case, re-installing windows requires re-formatting the HDD.

But keep the URL above handy, it may help with drivers you may need after the re-installationt.

Toshiba equium laptop - have lost all icons on

Try this...turn on the computer, let it get to your windows screen. Then go to Help and Support (on the Startup button), then go to System Restore. Restore your system to any earlier date, that's the easiest fix. Otherwise, I don't know any easy way to fix that.

Toshiba Equium A210 Laptop and the screen keeps on going blank

Hi...I have had the same problem with my A210 laptop as well over the last year. The problem is sporadic and it would just happen out of the blue.My daughter has the same laptop and the same problem. The screen would go blank ,but you could tell the computer was still functioning somewhat in the background. The only way to fix it was to reboot and if you were working on anything it was lost.I also recently had another similar problem.I had the laptop set to go to sleep when i shut the lid. This worked great for a year or so.When i opened the lid the screen would come back on and i could continue using the computer where i left off.But recently when i opened the lid the screen would come back on for a few seconds then go blank ,just like it did as described in the first problem above. Not sure why as i had not changed any settings on my computer. It happened every time i closed the lid then opened it.A pain as had to reboot to get it back. Here is the fix my friend discovered.Click on the ATI icon in the taskbar and open up the CATALYST CONTROL CENTER.Make sure the advanced view is selected. Now choose "display options".Put a dot in "Detect whenever catalyst control center is opened",and leave the other 2 spots unchecked.( I had a dot in these 2 places ). Now apply the changes and close it out. I have had no problems since doing this with the screen going blank. Not sure why this worked ,other then the computer was getting confused along the way and shut off the screen.Just be aware that if you hook your laptop to a TV you will have to revisit the ATI setting and change them back.....Hope this helps...Dan
