I put a new card in my camera because my last one

First of all, do you know you're supposed to download the pics from your full card to your computer and then format the card in the camera? Keeping them on the card is risky since the cards are not made for long term storage. The pics can degrade over time. Formatting completely erases a card and that's what happened with your new card. All new cards should be formatted in the camera before using....that's what your camera was trying to tell you.

Can i use regular batteries and not rechargeable

Yes, 2 AA batteries. Just insert them correctly.
They don't last as long as the CRV3 lithium battery pack though

Bought it 3 years ago, still using the same battery after taking 1,000's of pics. I also keep a pair of regular AA's as a back up when I'm away from home

What replacement battery should I buy for my

KODAK EASYSHARE Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery Pack: Provides exceptional capacity with its 2.5 hour fast charge cycle time; can be recharged up to 1000 times in the EasyShare Camera Dock or
KODAK CRV3 Lithium Batteries: A non-rechargeable battery designed specifically for today's feature-rich cameras. This battery is the obvious choice for speed performance, and long life. It delivers faster flash recycle times and lasts up to 10% longer than our previous design.

Embedded date on photos

this camera has an internal clock battery, which must keep the date or any other related information while you changing the batteries, the problem is, since you camera is pretty old, the clock battery is probably long dead, it can be changed, but it will require disassembling and resoldering

Photo colors are not true on my new Kodak....something wrong?

The Kodak CX4310 is the same as the CX4300 but the 4310 is a Wal-Mart special color. The camera feature that controls color balance is called "white balance" and on the 4310, it is totally automatic. Which means you have no control. If your color is not correct, return the camera. There are not many cameras that use a dock to recharge the camera batteries and connect to the computer. So you will not have many choices if you are looking for a different camera. One camera (without a dock) you should look at, is the Olympus Stylus 300. It is a better choice than the Kodak. It uses rechargeable batteries and the charger is included.

Kodak Z981 -- mode dial issue

I have a Z981 myself. I just set my camera as you did (to "A") but did not experience the issue you mention? Just to be clear, remember that setting the camera to "A" means "Aperture priority", meaning that you can control the lens aperture (with the "jog dial" on the top of the camera) and the camera will automatically set the shutter speed to create a proper exposure. "A" does NOT mean automatic exposure control. You must use "P" (Programmed) mode to make the camera make all the decisions about shutter speed and lens aperture. I am including a web link to the User Guide for the Z981. You might want to revisit the Guide to make sure you are using the correct settings for your pictures. BTW, I like my Z981 quite a bit, especially the zoom. I've taken some great pictures with it. http://resources.kodak.com/support/pdf/en/manuals/urg01118/Z981_xUG_GLB_en.pdf
