When I am transferring pictures from my Kodak EasyShare digital camera to my computer, a "The device is not ready" error message displays, and no pictures are transferred. What does this mean and how can I fix it?
This error message means that the preferences in EasyShare software are set to save pictures to the CD-ROM drive or some drive other than your hard drive. To correct this, follow these steps: Start EasyShare software. Select Tools > Preferences. Select the Transfer tab. Below "Select the location on your hard disk where you want to copy transferred pictures," select Browse. Browse to the desired location on the hard drive where you want to transfer your pictures. The default location is: For Windows 98/Me Operating Systems: c:/My Documents/My Pictures/Kodak Pictures For Windows 2000/XP Operating Systems: c:/Documents and Settings/user name/My Documents/My Pictures/Kodak Pictures Select OK to return to Preferences, then click Apply and OK to save and close the Preferences. Reconnect the camera, and transfer the pictures.

I've just returned from a trip and while there, I've encountered the error message, unrecognized file format, on the screen from my v550 Kodak camera. I couldn't review the image but the camera continue to take the pictures as normal, I just could not review them. Getting home I've tried to viewing them but I can't. I don't use the supplied docking station, I just remove the memory card and plop it directly to my PC. The files are there, they are reading as the standard jpeg file, but when I try to open it, I get an message from 'not a valid file'. I've tried using MS paint, Illustrator, photoshop and other image readers.....NO LUCK. I've even have gone as far as uploading them to photobucket and still get an error message. I know the file/picture/jpeg is valid but I just can't seem to open them. SO I really don't want lose these pics so: 1) Can I restore/repair the file with a program? 2) Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so what is the solution for fixing the pictures that were taken? 3) Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you !!

camera turns on briefly showing B03 error code, zoom lens extended (won't retract). changed batteries and removed memory code. I still receive the error code. the manual says to clean contact points on batteries. I even tried that and still have the same error code.

Thanks for your help!
THe issue of the camera shutting down and the lens Extending is an internal malfunction. UNited Camera Repair has been able to fix this, at least for me, they did. They replaced the main board and the camera worked when I got it back. Otherwise, if you dont want to spend the money, its a gonner..

easy share email will not connect to server
I wanted to use my ISP' email server, faster and no kodak advertising attached, here's what I did in version 7, now also version 8.
First click on "email" on the left side of the easyshare screen, then click on email settings at the top of the page and make sure that email with attachments is checked.
then go to the easyshare program folder normally at:
C:\Program Files\Kodak\Kodak EasyShare software\bin\ini\VistaEmail.ini
find the file ESAcct.ini and double click it.(you may want to make a copy of it somewhere just in case) in the file you will see:
[ACCOUNT_INFO]
EMAIL=
PW=
enter your ISP's mail server address at the EMAIL entry and your email password if required by your ISP at the PW like so,
[ACCOUNT_INFO]
EMAIL=mail.smtpserver.com
PW=mailpassword
of course these entries have to be YOUR server and password not the examples above. save the ESAcct.ini file.
Now find and double click the VistaEmail.ini file, again you may want to save a copy of it also.
Find the line
SMTPServer=picturecd.kodak.com
and change it to your smtp server address, just like above,
SMTPServer=mail.smtpserver.com
save this file. If easyshare is open you may have to close it (shut down easy share) and re open it.
If you are connected to the internet you should now be sending your photos through your ISP's mail server. No more long delays and no more kodak advertisements with your emailed photos!

My camera turns on , but shuts off right away. I just put in a new battery, but still have the same problem.
When a camera initializes, it checks certain functions, and extends the lens. When a lens is stuck, the gears driving it are usually either stuck or stripped. Dust or sand in the lens assembly can jam the len's gears. There are some things you can do try to fix this, unless the gear(s) are actually stripped, and in that case repair is needed. Here is a web page that explains the things you can try to free the lens, and get it working again.
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
The blog is about lens errors and stuck lens, so try the suggestions. They say about half the cameras can be fixed, trying their steps. If nothing works, the camera will have to be repaired. Make sure you get an estimate first, since the cost of repair can be sometimes be more than a new camera. Good luck, and hope this helps.

As soon as I turn it on, it shuts back off
Kodak offered no help with this problem and for my camera more than five years old no repair option was available. However, after thinking about this problem a solution was found. Perfectly charged old batteries and new batteries fully charged did not correct the problem.
Here is what worked for me: With fully charged battery installed, place closed camera on EasyShare-One camera dock. With the the green light flashing, simultaneously depress both the power on/off button and the shutter button. With both these buttons held down, toggle the capture view switch from an intial down position to up, and then down position.Now release both the power on/off button and the shutter button simultaneously. This whole process takes about 20 seconds. Let the camera remain on the dock until the green light stops flashing. Remove the camera from the dock, open the camera back as usual and the screen will present you with date/time setup. Enter the date and time as required, hit the 'done' icon with the camera pen and the camera will now function normally. Why this works is speculative. However, the idea behind this method is to force a 'reboot' to factory settings by maximising conflicting electronic input signals.

It keeps saying memory card is full. Bought a new memory card and put in and it still says the card is full.
Are you sure that isn't "internal" memory card is full message?
Sometimes, when "internal
memory card is full" there is no more space in the camera's internal
memory. Your camera has 16 MB of internal memory. The number of pictures
you can store depends on the picture size setting you have selected on
your camera. Keep in mind that the
camera always uses internal memory, even if a card is installed (auto default).
If really, the problem is in the "SD memory card", I suggest make some backup all files and reformat the SD. Try formatting it in the camera, there should be a process in your owners manual for doing this; donw formatted SD in your computer, isn't good.
Hope helps.
