My camera is the Kodak Z740. I love it 1 This

IT LOOKS LIKE THE LENS IS STUCK. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS A PHYSICAL INTERRUPTION WHEN THE LENS IS PUSHED OUT WHEN THE CAMERA IS POWERED ON. THIS MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THE GEARS OF THE LENS TO GET STUCK OR DAMAGED.YOU CAN TRY PULLING THE LENS OUT GENTLY ONCE YOU SWITCH ON THE CAMERA. THIS MIGHT CORRECT YOUR PROBLEM , IF NOT YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A GOOD TECH.

ths issue happens every so often on these cameras. for some reason it seems the camera has issues interacting with the lens motor and turns off. you need to make sure the len shoot is clean of obstruction and try to give it a wiggle or turn. leave the batteries out of the unit for about 5 minuts and for 10 seconds before hold the power button over. then place the batteries in the unit. this is something that i have happen to my unit atleast 2 or 3 times a year.

I have a z740 every

Some symptoms of a defective CCD (Charge Coupled Device) include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card. CCD is one of the two main types of image sensors used in digital cameras.

When a picture is taken, the CCD is struck by light coming through the camera's lens. Each of the thousands or millions of tiny pixels that make up the CCD convert this light into electrons. The number of electrons, usually described as the pixel's accumulated charge, is measured, then converted to a digital value. This last step occurs outside the CCD, in a camera component called an analog-to-digital converter.

In order to correct this issue, the repair facility needs to replace the CCD. This is not something you may do on your own; check this article for additional details: Bad CCDs. This, isn't a good new, but hope helps to solve it.

Hope this helps to solve it (remember to rate and comment this answer).

I got a new memory 4gb SDHC card but it wont work!

The Z740 works with SD and MMC cards, not with SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible. You need to use cards 2GB and smaller.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

Hi!

Unfortunately, it's impossible to do it automatically... You'll have to use a photo editing software (the simplest one will be Microsoft Paint) to manually wipe it out of the pictures!

If you are satisfied, rate my solution with the "thumbs" or (even better) add a testimonial.

Best regards,
Pelu.

Hi! My camera powers up, shows

Hi Tracy.

The symptoms are those of an internal hardware failure. The camera starts up, indicating that it is powered. Then it shows the splash screen, which says that the LCD is working. Then the camera crashes while doing the initial test, when all part of the camera are powered and checked.

When it fails this way it is usually defective main board. A short in wiring to lens or a shorted lens motor may cause the same thing. Before sending the camera for repair, check the following.

Test using a different battery (if using Kodak rechargeable battery). You can go to a Kodak camera shop and ask testing Kodak battery.
If you are using ordinary batteries, ensure that they are Alkaline. Replace with fully charged.

Try starting the camera with no memory card. A shorted SD card may cause the same thing.

Check if the lenses are stuck half the way through.

Remove batteries; point lens to the floor; hold down the on button; reinsert batteries while holding the button; release button (power reset).

If all that does not work, then the camera must be repaired. In that case call Kodak to get a quote on repair. You can get a quote from a third party here:Repair.

Regards.

Ginko.

Toggle has broken loose. Local repair shop told me

You don't state where on the camera but if you mean the part attached to the strap you will probably be able to dismantle the side panel and fashion something with stiff wire or small cable tie, which will do the job for long enough to render the camera obsolete.Otherwise not really worth repairing sorry.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

How do I remove write protection using the camera

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Put in a 4gb SD

There are no 4GB SD cards. A card that size is actually an SDHC card. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different. Many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.
