Nikon D5100 Digital Camera with 1855mm lens Questions & Answers
Why won't d5100 flash won't pop up?
It won't in several shooting modes, like manual. Try auto and make sure flash mode is not set to off (circle with line over lightening bolt) but to auto.
How to shoot in dark
Good question, you need light so open up you lens aperture like F4.3
slow your speed down to give the lens time to see the subject
then set your ISO to 800 or higher you can make night time look like day play with your cameras setting go outside and try different setting and see what best for you to got to practice just like a car
You just don't ask somebody how to make the car go fast you got to try it out then you will know. Good luck\ *
Lens not attached
Based on the fact that you asked this basic question, I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIX THE CAMERA YOURSELF! The problem you describe requires the services of a knowledgable camera repair man. I recommend that you go on Nikon's website and find the location of the nearest Nikon repair depot and follow instructions for return of your camera. Ask them for a repair estimate before they proceed with the work.
How to i use video mode
Rotate the Live View switch to the LV position. Focus by pressing the shutter release button halfway. Start recording by pressing the movie-record button. Stop recording by pressing the movie-record button again.Full details are in the "Recording and Viewing Movies" section of the manual (page 107 in my copy). If you need a manual, you may download a copy

Flash pops but doesnt fire
Still this is strange. Most of the time when I use the auto setting, I turn the main dial not on the green camera, but on the one between SCENE and the green logo. That prevent the flash to pop up. But still if you want to use the flash it should be possible.
Be aware that some settings the flash can't be used, f.i. when the shutter speed is to high. I would suggest to put al user settings back to standard and try to use the flash again. If it stalls again, try to read the display, if it gives anything of a warning or message.
