I had this problem too. What I did was turn the post the bobbin sits on to the left (lefty-loosy) and kept re-booting the sewing machine until the bobbin started to spin correctly and the needle disengaged! I was so happy I figured it out, I did not want to return the sewing machine.

the machine comes in two versions european {220-240v} or american {110v} you need to use a transformer to give 110-240v the current this machine uses is less than 3amps so a 3amp 110-240v converter is easily found on ebay for $10

if the sewing machine is set on the buttonhole setting then it'spossible that the sewing machine motherboard has a problem.or a part could be damaged, the machine may need some type of adjustment.

Well, you COULD get this fixed -- or you could purchase an inexpensive bobbin winder and skip the whole issue. Does a better job, too.

Unfortunately, your machine's manual doesn't list the meaning of error codes. You have two choices. Either go to the Singer site and send an email to customer service, or call their customer service department--if you do that, call as early as possible--8 am is a good time. You could also purchase the service manual; I took a look at ebay, and there is one for sale there on CD for $14.95. You can also contact Sewing Parts Online; they carry service manual, although when I checked, they don't have yours in stock. However, you can send them an email or call them (recommend calling), and they are most accommodating about ordering service manuals and parts that they don't have in stock.

Many things can cause a machine to be hard to turn. Lint and tread are the first suspects. Thread can be caught in the shafts or gears and this will cause a bind. I have found entire spools of thread under the hand wheel. This was not even the thread she was sewing with at the time. Could you please clarify this issue? Is your power cord missing, or you have it and the machine doesn't turn on? I just took a look at the user's manual for your machine, and your power cord is a standard two-prong polarized laptop cord--you can buy it at any computer store. You may have similar cords around the house on, for instance, your printers. Your first step is trying another cord--that's generally the problem. If it still doesn't go on, I'm afraid that you'll have to have a technician take a look at it--it could be anything from a blown fuse, to a defective motherboard, to a bad motor.

That said, for your understsnding of the gravity of the situation, I provide the following info and warnings!!!!! Loud screeching like you describe is INDICATIVE OF either a pulley-belt joint slipping at very high speed, OR a BEARING in a high speed application binding, NEITHER OF WHICH IS GOOD!!!!! To prevent possible total destruction of your machine, I strongly suggest the you unplug it UNTIL you can get it to a QUALIFIED repair TECHNICIAN for troubleshooting. The symptoms you describe are indicative of a very serious problem which could result in severe damage to your machine!

I just checked your user's manual, and unfortunately it only lists error codes up to E5. There are several things I would check, though. You're saying that it stops working; I would remove the cover over the thread path--it's separate from the front and back, and may be removed by the user for cleaning--and check to see if there are any threads wrapped around something, preventing the machine from working. I would also check that the bobbin winder and buttonhole lever are in their correct positions. When it stops, try to sew manually by bringing the hand wheel towards you (ALWAYS towards you--never away from you.) Once you have ruled out user error, you might want to send an email to Singer customer service, asking what the code means, because while it might not be in your user's manual, it is probably in the service manual. If those haven't worked, it's time to buy the service manual. I get mine from Sewing Parts Online; I checked, and it's not listed as in stock, but if you will call or email them (calling is recommended), they can and will order it for you, and their charges are reasonable.
