Do you have the range extender set up on the same live in the fuse box? If you have the one side on a breaker on the opposite side of the fuse box from the othrr side, it will not work well at all. That is why I encourage people not to waste their money on these things and get a decent wireless system so that you dont have problems.

Does it support windows 8. The box says windows 7

I don't think it matters, as only the install program requires Windows 7. If you install it manually on wireless you should not have a problem with Windows 8. Most Windows 8 machines have Wi-I built-in and so do not require a driver as it is already fitted. See manual for router. N300 WiFi Router

Nat n300

You turn on NAT (Network Address Translation). It turns local addresses into internet packets, so that the same device gets the response from the other end. This router doesn't have NAT, only a firewall. see manual http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WNR3500LV1/WNR3500L_SM_11JUN2010.pdf

Can i use two modems and two routers in the same building

Yes you can. You may have some interference but that can be dealt with by simply moving them apart even if only by a few feet. There are other more technical ways to handle this but give this a try first
