Sorry but XP is no longer viable...not since last year. And...you are not protected from malware nor will you get any updates. While that may not seem like a big deal today, you're going to encounter big problems in a very short time. Star thinking about getting a new system.

Your modem is using your phoneline.
You can only use either your phone or your modem with the older dial up V 92 modems..
However, modern ADSL broadband modems get around this by using Micro Filters, i do not know if this will work for a V.92 modem.

I would go to us robotics website and download the software and driveres for the modem.

If you installed internal modem, try remove it and reboot.

You need to install the drivers from this page. It's very simple, make sure you pick the according OS, which is Windows XP in your case. Then you need to enter the captcha code and select US or EU server to download from. If this is only partial to the software you need to use the N1996, feel free to respond for further assistance.

You can probably find the software on the manufactures web site and download it and run the software from the .exe file. Without knowing the model number of the Wireless Adapter I have no way of looking for you, but the manufacture should be able to provide it via download.

go to device manager and check if there are names under the modem and network adapter
