Was afraid this was the error that led me to toss a printer before. But after a quick search, found the following suggested fix for a potential registry problem. Problem with Windows Canon Mp280 Error 5011 Hope that does it.

1. Turn off printer
2. Unplug all cords
3. Press ON button 5 times in a row
4. Plug printer back in
5. Try printing

If this doesn't work, call Canon

I think that you haven't downloaded a driver.You'd better access the Internet to download one.(I just solve it in China this way.)

First run nozzle check, this will show you if there are problems with your printhead. This can be removed and 'gently' cleaned. (how to.. is in manual on CD). Take care, as printheads are fragile and expensive.

Hi Harold I have a feeling that this is a problem that you will only be able to resolve by changing the colour cartridge for a new one and then doing multiple head cleaning operations. It sounds as if the three tanks in the colour cartridge have become severely contaminated with ink from the others, thus giving this overall brown colour on the page, whichever colour the computer tells the printer to print. To check this you may be able to use something like a Word document and using the font properties, change the colour of the font on the screen for a number of different lines (eg one line - bright yellow, another - bright red, a third - bright blue, a fourth - black) print this out and see what colours you get.
