Im presuming that your have replaced the drum??
if so :
Remove the new drum.
On the front of that drum, there is a green cover. Take it off and what has happened is the flag on the gear had dropped in shipping.
You will see a flag like piece of plastic on one of the gears, reset it to up and somewhat to the right.
Then put the green cover back on
That flag has to be in the up position when new. It passes down and actuates a drum reset switch on the machine.
When that is back in the up position. re insert the drum and on the first revolution it will turn on the switch.
The copy will print, but parts of the copy are
Bad fusing unit. The fusing unit is the assembly that get hot and "fuses" the toner onto the paper just before the paper exits the machine. If you or someone you know is mechanically inclined you could replace the unit yourself. $150 to $180 for the fusing unit.
precisionroller.com has them. Part# R3200
Replacement consists of removing the back cover so you can unplus the wiring. The opening the right side door and removing 2 mounting screws.
Good Luck and Thank You for uning Fixya.

Tonor along edge of paper on my Xerox WorkCentre XL2140df
I would think you just have another bad cartridge. have you simply tried shaking it side to side? May just be built up on one side, but those cartridges are notorious for going bad. You need to vacuum the machine out well also. That toner and developer get in all those little plastic supports and can cause toner to dump.I would say the chance of a bad cartridge again is about 95 percent.
The printing problem. Have you tried downloading the driver from the Xerox.com site? Or simply reloading the driver. Sounds like its corrupted somehow. And when you change the tray, you are clicking apply?
Will not start
First off, open the document feeder and see if the lamp is moving freely. If not remove the glass and find what is binding it.
Next listen closly to the drum and toner cartridge for noise.
If the noise is from the right side door, then the fuser gear has worn out. But I am assuming it will NOT feed paper. If it was the fiser gear it would jam in the right side door.
Then UNPLUG the machine. remove the back cover, and on the right half of the machine, locate the main drive motor, about 4 inches by 3 inches. Held in with 4 pillips screws and one connector. Once you remove it inspect the helix gear pressed onto the motor shaft. It can appear perfect but be split and slipping on the shaft. You want to see if you can pull it off the shaft or easily spin it and not the motor shaft. If so you must replace the motor.
Let me know please.
We can progress and find the problem. These are the most likely issues. But not all.

An E-5 Normally comes from the paper path actuator that detcts the second side of a copy is hanging up.
In the fuser area there are some corrigated looking parts of the fuser exit guide that the actuator is most likely hitting or hanging up on.
You may have to take a pair of diagional cutters and snip a small section of that out.E-5 is a jam on duplex copies on that machine.
White spots on copy random
On the left hand drawyer is the transfer wire. Its very thin and inside a silver channel. Take a 1 tip soaked with alcohol and clean it with light pressure.
I assume you replaced the drum cartridge correct? Not just the toner.
