Him I need to recover

This drive is an IDE type and not SATA, which means you will need an adapter like this one so you can plug a data cable and provide power. You can then connect the drive to a regular desktop PC.

You can set the jumper on the drive to make it a slave and hook it up on the same IDE cable as your primary hard drive, but the jumpers on the laptop drives are teeny little ones and I personally find them hard to deal with. What I do is unplug the data cable to the optical drives which are on the second IDE channel, then plug the laptop drive cable there. Then the drive can remain jumpered as master.

Another option is not to bother opening the PC at all, but to get an external hard drive case like this. Then you could just plug the drive in on a USB port and copy your data, and you'd have an external drive available for future use.

Good luck with the recovery, and thanks for using Fixya!

What is the jumper setting to make this a slave

If it's USB you shouldn't have to mess with the jumper settings but here is a site that appears to have them for TravelStar: http://www.ontrack.com/jumperviewer/ If the drive is not showing up in My Computer make sure there is a drive letter available for it to use. You can right click on the My Computer icon, select Manage and then go to Disk Management and see if the drive shows up there and then assign it to a different letter.

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll through all of your devices If you see a yellow question or exclamation mark ? ! or a red X you will need to update the drivers for this device right click select update driver/reinstall driver if you can see your usb device but its not working scroll to Ports(Com&Ltd) right click to update driver If you computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it. Rather doing a driver hunt which can take hours http://download.cnet.com/slimdrivers-free/3000-18513_4-75279940.html Windows XP/Vista/7/8 it might take some time being a freeware driver solution Note: it will find all of your outdated drivers This will automatically search for and find the correct driver you will have to update every driver individually once you update you might be asked whether you want to restart or make a system restore point. Click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated. Hope this helps.

Hitachi 50hyt62u H can I add a removable drive as I have a slot in Back for one, and if so where do I get one

You should be able to buy an external USB drive (or thumb drive) at any electronics store. You can connect a USB hard disk drive or USB memory stick to your TV by using the USB inputs of the TV. This feature allows you to play files stored in a USB drive. 2.5" and 3.5" inch (hdd with external power supply) external hard disk drives are supported. IMPORTANT! You should back up your files before making any connections to the TV set in order to avoid any possible data loss. Manufacturer will not be responsible for any file damage or data loss. It is possible that certain types of USB devices (e.g. MP3 Players) or USB hard disk drives/memory sticks may not be compatible with this TV. Quickly plugging and unplugging USB devices, is a very hazardous operation. Do not repeatedly quickly plug and unplug the drive. This may cause physical damage to the USB player and USB device itself. Do not pull out USB module while playing a file. Media Browser Menu You can play photo, music, and movie files stored on a USB disk by connecting it to your TV and using the Media Browser screen. To do this, perform the following: Connect a USB disk to one of the USB inputs located on the side of the TV. You can connect two USB devices to your TV. If both USB devices include music, picture or video files, USB selection OSD will be displayed on the screen. The first USB device connected to the TV will be named as USB Drive1. Select a device by using up or down arrows and press OK
