Hi Gina,
A failed CFL in the backlights may be causing this. Also check all the connectors between the inverter and the CFLs.

The problem lies in the main board.

If the TV timer is set within then it will restart in the same channel as when you connect the power to the timer the whole power is shut down and so the memory is lost on the last attempt. Hence the TV will start back on the default setting unless there is proper back up on the memory. Please check if the TV timer can be reset to solve this issue or the memory must be checked for fault to retain last settings.

back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. Caps can fail with no outward signs. It takes a special meter to test them. Your set may have a back light inverter that powers the back lights. When it fails, the picture cant be seen, but you have sound, to check this look for a picture on the screen using a flashlight

In some models of LCD TVS; the backlight inverter and its T'Con board will be a part of the panel itself, and will be a built-in type inside the LCD panel. If so, they can't be replaced. In this case; a panel replacement is the only repair. For some other models, the backlight inverter section circuit will be a part of the main power supply regulator [SMPS]. To such sets, the power supply section circuit too should be troubles hooted. Contact any service technician. The circuit will differ with models and versions.
Type in the brand name of your device, in the search box [at the top right] of the display window and the Search will start at once as you type in, and will show you all the related posts. It will make surf easy.

Hi, not sure if you have the same fault as i had, but our tv only had half the screen go off, after looking up on the internet i found a video for a fix, what you need to do is remove the back cover, there will be ribbons that go from the front screen to the main panel, i removed each one at a time and rubbed the contacts of the ribbon with a rubber on the end of a pencil, plugged them all back in and switched it on and it was now spot on, thats more than a year ago and its still working spot on, hope this helps

You can also replace the bad capacitors on the power supply board.

Sounds like the LCD Panel, if under warranty contact Samsung warranty for service. If out of warranty, watch it until you tire of it then replace the unit as the cost of a new panel is more than a new unit.

Contact your insurance company and make a claim. Lightning damage to electronics like that is hard to repair.
