Printer "read" ink level counter, not ink level actually. Refillable ink tank read as empty ink. Two methods to resolve this. Reset ink level counter using software. Or disable ink level counter reading.

i mgo to print something and it starts then stops and then the amber light flashes

The E05 error indicates that the Fine ink cartridges are either not correctly installed or isn't recognized by the printer. Make sure that the correct CL-211 and PG-210 cartridges are installed. (Refilled or re-manufactured cartridges may not be correctly recognized.) Check if the cartridges are in the correct slots and that the locking cover is fully seated. (Lift up the scanner unit, lock the support and wait for the carrier to stop moving before checking the cartridges.) Replace the cartridges with new ones. If that doesn't solve the problem, the printer needs service. If it is under warranty, contact Canon. Otherwise, decide if the service is worthwhile. (There can be a couple of parts that could be at fault; however on this model they are not user serviceable parts.) I hope this helps. Cindy Wells
