One way that you can delete files would be to
1) Remove some applications by uninstalling them. You can do this in the settings in your phone.
2) Install a file manager program. There are many of them but one of the most popular would be "Astro File Manager". You can find that in the android market. Once you install this app, you can search files and folders on your phone and you can delete things that are taking up too much space.
