First of all there isn't any problem with your memory card or camera .
Take out the memory card from your camera and take a look at memory card , there will be a lock pin on the memory card .just unlock it with your finger cause it has a tiny knob

Sounds like you have a defective camera. You might want to take the camera back to the place you got it and get a replacement. You can try removing and reseating the batteries to fix the problem.

Do not confuse image size with file size. Your camera is taking pictures with 12 million picture elements (pixels). When that image is stored on the memory card, the image file takes up about 4 million bytes, but still has 12 million pixels.
