Sony Cybershot dsc-wx9 videos won't

It may be your missing a CODEC in your PC. However you have several options. Try downloading and installing 'VLC media player', that plays most video clip types including AVCHD. A couple of good video format converters are 'Handbrake' and 'AnyVideo Converter'. Both are free downloads.

I had my camera in my back pocket. I sat on it and cracked the LCD.

No way anyone can say what is defect. Not even sure the defect was induced while you cracked the screen and became worse during the "repair" or you did make an little error while putting things together. Even in my professional career as a repair engineer, Trying to find an error after a college could not get it fixed complete, were the most difficult jobs. My best hint for this? start saving for a new camera. Will save you a lot of greef and a lot of time.

How can I use Sony

I'm sorry to inform you that the DSC-WX9 dos not work as a web cam. It only connects as [MTP] or [Mass Storage]. It doesn't have PTP that allows cameras to work as web cams.

Photos to big to import to some sites from my sony digital DSC-WX9 camera

You can use just about any photo editing program to reduce the resolution of the photos. For example, in Windows Photo Gallery select "E-mail" from the menu.If you know you're not going to do anything but email the photos, you can reduce the resolution in the camera so as to create smaller photos in the first place using the Still Image Size command in the Shooting menu. However, if you happen to take a great photo you won't be able to make a good print of it because it's too small.

Hi,i dropped my sony WX9.

Hi,
There are three ways of repairing,
1- Contact nearest Sony Service Center and they will estimate you to replace the Complete Optical Unit, which would be costly but reliable,

2- In second way, Contact any repair man nearby and he will open the Optical Unit Assy. and and try to fix it (most probably it is only misaligned).

3- Third method is free of cost and chances are 50/50, the face of optical unit (Lens) keep down and keep press it normally and in the meanwhile turn its power on. The Lens of the camera will try to open keep it press slightly not with full power :) . After few tries turn it off. After that in normal way turn it on and hopefully it will work fine again.
If No.3 method successful keep remember me :)
Thanks

My sony cybershot dsc-wx9 shows

Hello

Thank you for using FIXYA!!!

This is a suggestion. If you do not feel comfortable trying it, you will need to take the unit to your nearest service centre. Feel free to let me know if you need any assistance.

The problem might be that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea
