it should be fine leaving battery in or your alarm might go off cause bell boxes have there own battery backup, just make sure you sort out shorted wires first and replace with same fuse.

Yes, provided the 18 gauge wire is being used in a low voltage application. You do not want to run any type of high voltage wire in any raceway with low voltage. Hope this helps.

its a long time since i worked on these but its quite easy you want the 2 terminals that make a circuit when the magnet is placed by the switch and breaks the circuit when the magnet is removed.hope this helps
