yes you can do this.its called a variable power switch .

cobra 29 red light is normal but if you have two red lights that means that your swr is to high. take all that stuff you put on the antenna connection,get rid of the spring and adjust your antenna using an external swr meter. Get the swrs down around 1.5 and the second red light ,which is the AWI or antenna warning indicator,will also go out.

normal operation. the PA mode is for you to transmit to someone on the outside and to monitor the radio while you are not in the vehicle.

look into buying a new radio. If you had researched further you would have found out that unless you are on cb your radio will not operate . If you are on PA the you can only transmit through the PA system not the cb. If you changed the audio IC then you probably did a cold solder on it. You need an external speaker to operate the pa mode and an external speaker to operate the CB mode .If you decide to fix it more it will cost you more then buying a new radio.

reverse polarity diode is burnt or blown. change it.

recheck all your adjustments

no matter what s/rf you are looking at it should not key much beyond an s-9 . vr 3 controls the meter. Key the mic and adjust it to s-9 then check you modulation.If you still think you need more then adjust vr 4 .

open the radio and turn vr 4 wide open but before you do get a new mic and hook it up to eliminate the squeal the turn up vr 4 to raise the modulation.

you may have to go thru all the channels and reset them to their correct frequencies . reset the radio to channel one and the top channel always going back to channel one to get a balance between all channels . If that is to much work and you don't mind the problem and can deal with it then leave it as it is .

get a dc plug for your cigarette lighter and connect it to the radio wires(black on black red to red) its the best and fastest way for install and cheap.

Use trial and error systemathically. If still refuses to work, mike and radio aren't compatibles.

volume is to your choice I have mine 3/4 open to get over the noise in my truck.My sq is all the way left,RF gain is all the way right. Mic gain is about half . I don't use the swr knob because I have it hooked up to an external meter . Delta tune is set to the point of the click on the knob . Thats how I have mine set and it works fine for me.

bad IC 1 have a tech fix it.
