If the unit doesn't go further from the reading card. this may indicate that theres a problem in the memory card.

Not being able to a get a signal lock on satellites would indicate a problem either in the software something is wrong or not geting loaded correctly (the memory card) Or a hardware problem.

You may have to take it in for service if you are unable to check the memory card or replace it.

I am not too smart on the Garmin but I know they have a Tec. phone number that can help. Give it a try.

The solution is in the manual but however it is not given the prominence it deserves. It is talked about in passing and yet it is the most important thing GPS users need. One goes to the Pointer and uses the scroll up and down keys to get the coordinates aprt from other things like bearing, elevation, sunrise or sunset time, trip odmeter etc .

The manual should clearly show this prominently. I gave this GPS to 4 people and the manual and all failed to figure this out. This shows the instruction is not user friendly. The Old Garmin GPS would lead you straight into coordinates and the accuracy reading on the same screen display and this was simple.

It may be the tactile switch that is broken. I had the same problem on my older model etrex. I carefully removed the surrounding rubber case wrap and the sticky tape underneath. This allows you to visually inspect the switches. The black plastic button on the enter switch was completely gone and the buttons on the page up/down keys were broken away and loose, although those keys still worked. I opened up the case, removed the switches (largely by using a razor blade to pry them off), and bought 8 replacement switches from mouser (667-EVQ-PSH02K). I replaced the three broken switches using a very fine tip on the soldering iron with flux on all the feet. The extra switches I will keep for further repairs if necessary.

Problems with the eTrex can include the device not turning on, issues getting a location fix, the arrow on the screen not pointing toward the destination, and coordinates issues.

Replace the AA batteries if the Garmin eTrex GPS Receiver. Turn the device over and remove the battery compartment cover. Remove the old batteries and discard them properly. Insert the new batteries, ensuring that the polarity is correct. The plus and minus signs on the batteries must match those indicated on the eTrex.

Move to an open location if the eTrex can't get a location fix. The eTrex uses signals that it receives from satellites. It needs to be in line of sight to them. Avoid using the device in parking structures, dense foliage or deep canyons. If you find it hard to see the sky, then the Garmin eTrex GPS Receiver does, too.

Keep moving if the arrow on the navigation page doesn't point toward the destination. Unlike a magnetic compass, a GPS receiver needs to constantly update itself to know which way you are moving.

Verify that the Garmin eTrex GPS Receiver is using the same position format and datum as the map you are using if the Garmin eTrex GPS Receiver coordinates don't match that of your map. Press the "Page" button and switch to the "Menu." Select "Units," and then "Position Frmt." You can also change the map datum by selecting, "Map Datums." The correct map datum to use should be printed on your map in the title block.
