Yes just leave the unit power ON and when the charging is done the unit will stop charging automatically.

No it won't unless you have the maps already pre-looaded. Check this by typing in PARIS as the city and Rue de la Paix as a street test If it does not allow that then you need Europe maps installed.

there are two ways by which you can charge your Garmin street pilit c300, 1.) you can charge it with a car AC adapter or 2.) with a usb connection.

Follow the steps below, I'll give you direction on both steps so that you can choose the option that will be suite-able for you:
Recharge with the Car AC Adapter

1. Plug the small end of the car AC adapter into the suction mount connector of the C330.
2. Place the larger end of the car AC adapter into an AC connector in your car. The AC connector is commonly referred to as a "cigarette lighter."
3. Keep the charger plugged in until the battery indicator is full. The battery will charge with the car running or if it is off, and if the C330 is powered on or off.

Recharge with a USB Connection

1. Place the driver installation CD in the CD-ROM and follow the onscreen instructions. You need the drivers installed on your computer to charge your C330 through the USB ports.
2. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the connector on the C330 above the "Power" button.
3. Connect the opposite end of the USB cable to a USB port on your computer.
4. Keep the C330 connected to the computer until the battery indicator is full. The C330 will charge whether the unit is on or off. The computer, however, must be on at all times.

yes the battery needs to be replaced, even when the GPS has external power the battery must be good for it to work,

You can purchase map updates for download at Garmin's website, www.garmin.com.

on the main screen push the wrench>push system>goto gps mode>hit normal> change normal setting to GPS OFF now it will allow you to update. Whew that was a buggar to figure out!!!

the problem shouldn't be from the battery, but it should be from the unit itself.

You can take it out for repairs or better still, replace it if you are able to.

OK, please find above, your owners manual, and some troubleshooting websites, the owners manual, indicates how to calibrate the screen.in the user manual. If you find that you cannot, do anything to calibrate it, you will find it has spontaneously faulted.
I have seen, at times, where the actual, touch screen itself, actually goes faulty, these can be replaced, but it would be best if the unit was returned to Garmin, they repair these units very inexpensively. Also you could ask for a "Quote" before proceeding with any repair.

If there are no power points in your vehicle, you might have to purchase a battery-operated powerpack and plug the GPS into that via a USB/AC adapter.

Find the wall charger - most any usb mini that has the right out power amount [ do NOT over do it or you can burn the unit up] - Anyway - try the wall unit - if after 48 hours it refuses to take a charge - get a new one from www.tigerdirect.com for well less than the price of a battery.

then the unit is defective and will require service, the best thing to do is use the exchange program, u send yours in they send u a factory rebuilt unit.

I would have said recalibrate, and you can still try that, but I suspect the vertical hold transistor is faulty and is allowing drift when it warms up. It will need a new motherboard as the items are throw away at high prices.

You must call the factory to verify you have the unit - -and they will reset it remotely - this is to keep a thief from using it.

If you take the unit outside and turn it on, it will get a satellite fix and know it is in NH. From that point forward, it will us NH as a starting point (unless you turn it off in another state and turn it back on indoors).

Try resetting the unit and also charge it using only the wall charger overnight. Here's how to reset -it just puts everything back to factory settings - 1- Turn unit on WHILE HOLDING your thumb in the lower right corner as shown in picture. 2-Select YES PLEASE Take the time to vote me up this is my only reward for trying to help.
