Kenwood VR-405 Receiver - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
How to reset?
It went out through excessive or kicked off at peak power
Does kenwood VR-405 play DTS-HD Master
I have the 405 and a Samsung 3600 which has onboard DTS Master/ Dolby True HD. Out of the 6 movies I 've watched, only 2 have given me Dolby Digital. Bottom line: If the movie doesn't have DD, you cant get DD on the 405. I thought just about all blu rays had DD but its not so. Its time for us to upgrade!
Vr-405 no sound - looking for service manual
Try cleaning cleaning all the switches/connections you can. The fact that it sometimes works indicates that the components are good but that you have an intermittent connection somewhere such as a bad solder joint
Problem for Kenwood VR-405. Subwoofer has no sound
How I fixed this was to get a can of electrical contact cleaner. Any auto parts store or electronics store will carry it. Take the cover off and remove the volume knob. It's responsible for the output volume to the sub. Pry the four silver tabs open and pull apart the knob. You should see some corrosion on the contacts. Use a fingernail file to clean them off now clean it with the contact cleaner. Put it back together and you are ready to go.
I want to extend my
The remote is an inferred emitter, and the amplifier has the inferred sensor built into it in the front upper-right corner. Since the inferred signal has the same physical properties as light, with the exception of not being able to see it with the naked eye, you can use fiber optics or mirrors direct the inferred signal to the sensor which could work. Since your unit does not have a jack for a remote sensor you would have to disassemble the unit to access the sensor from the front panel and extend the wires on the sensor placing the sensor near your deck. However, I would not recommend the disassembly of the unit which could cause cosmetic or electrical damage to your unit. The recommended option if you cannot optically direct the signal is to have a sensor and an emitter to relay the signal to your receiver sensor, which is called an inferred repeater.

This would be more expensive ($100.00 and up) but is guaranteed to work.
I found a repeater for $50.00 at the below link.

people say that you have to tap on the receiver near the remote sensor. I don't know exactly where that is though since these are RF (radio frequency) not IR remotes, so there isn't a sensor panel in the front. I'd just tap along the front edge with the handle of a screwdriver or something. People say it works a treat.
Need the cable to conect my subwoofer for
You don't identify the subwoofer so we have to guess.
Since it only supports a powered subwoofer I would guess you just need a standard single RCA cable available anywhere hifi cables are sold.
Got a Kenwood vr405 surround receiver, a Sanyo
If you would like to use high definition audio decoding, connect the HDMI from the blu ray player to the receiver. If that it not an option for you due to lack of equipment such as an additional HDMI cable to go from the receiver to the television for the video portion of the signal, then connect your optical cable again. After the optical cable is connected, make sure the Dolby Digital decoding is enabled on the receiver, and that the media you are playing also has a version of 5.1 surround sound. Then, enter the setup menu of the player (which I suspect this is actually where the problem might reside in your case) and make sure that Dolby Digital and DTS are not set to "downmix." Dolby Digital should be set to output Dolby Digital and so on and so forth...hope this helped.
How to hook up a kenwood audio-video surround
hello all you need is a good pair of RCA cables.
Use the audio output on the TV
run it to the VIDEO 1 input on the receiver
as for your DVD player vcr etc you can either run them directly to the tv as it will output whatever sound is playing to the receiver.
or
use the receiver as a video switcher and connect your components directly to it.
remember your receiver will need to be set to the input you use. ie: video 1 / dvd etc..
Hope that helps
Cant get the wiring figured out.........
I have a similar set up. For yours, I would run one optical from your Sat box to your 407 and connect the DVD player optical to the Kenwood as well. This will allow you to get whatever your watching, DVD or Satellite to your speakers. For Video, use the component cables to connect DVD player to TV. For the SAT box, coaxial to TV or S video to TV will give you about the same video quality. I hope this helps. A couple of suggestions: Your new screen size will greatly magnify the quality of your video, what looked good on the Sharp may not look good on the Samsung due to the size difference. I REALLY suggest you get a new SAT box with a HDMI connection. Also you can get a blu ray player in the $120 range. The Blu ray will play blu rays and upconvert DVDs to a higher quality picture through its HDMI connection. You will be amazed at the difference HDMI will make on how your TV will look!
