LG LRM519 DVD Recorder with new Comcast Digital box

I don't think you need a converter. All you have to do is connect the two together. If for example both have scart sockets then all you need is a scart to scart lead. When recording you simply set the recording channel to the scart socket the box is connected. So if it is on AV1 you set it as that. Then with the box on, you record the shows you want, by setting a timer to record AV1 when the show you want is on.

Cannot get the subwoofer to

After making sure that your subwoofer is receiving power, as most models have their own amplifier, make sure that it actually is turning on. There is a possibility of a faulty power switch. Lets rule that out first.
Once the switch is on and the proper power connection is verified, turn your attention to the setup menu on your receiver. Navigate to the LFE/Sub output level. Adjust it up all the way. Then navigate to the crossover setting. Turn it up all the way. If the subwoofer also has it's own control panel including a crossover, turn that up all the way as well. Then with an input on the receiver that has a subwoofer output set up such as for DVD, play some audio. Or likewise you can also use the receivers' test tone capability that will pan each channel individually with a wide band pink noise signal that also includes a signal sent to the subwoofer output.

If this procedure does not produce results then send me a message including your subwoofer model and your observations of your systems' operation.

Manuals help. Read them. Nothing in your receiver is actually a multichannel source so you'll be needing to understand the external sources that originate that kind of programming. Manuals.

Search Engine of your choice: "(product) manual"

'Large' is not literal in the context of Bass Management. It refers to the ability of a given speaker to handle REAL bass. Yes = Large, No = Small. 'Small' redirects bass from that speaker channel to the sub.

Web search concepts like bass management, speaker placement, multichannel sound, digital audio, etc.

I turn stereo on and it shuts off after a few

There is an output load on the receiver, turn off! remove speaker wires from back, power on and turn down the volume, if it holds! you have a short in the wires or one of the speakers. Now if if shuts down with everything dis-connected it means there is one or more audio outputs shorted.

Connect a Sony SA-W3800 powered subwoofer to a kenwood receiver

Yes. It needs to know you have a subwoofer or it won't send low frequencies out to one. Then you have to calibrate its level to match the rest of your speakers. Hit the SETUP section in the manual (available at retrevo.com).

I have a vr 309 kenwood reciever with a bad

Are you sure the VR309 is sending a signal out through the sub port? Attach one of your other speakers to it as a test (low volume). Then get back to us.

There are such things as user settings that affect this.

IR receiver on unit not working?

Sounds to me like the issue is the rx in the unit. It can be fixed with very little work if you can locate the part. Let me take a look and see if I can locate the part number for you. Although I have to say that Kenwwod can keep a tight lip on their parts lists.
