Press the enter. Next press the down button on the ring about 3 times until "Special Options" appears. Press enter again (important). Press the down of the ring about 4 times until "LCD backlight" appears. Press the left arrow of the ring to turn the LCD backlight on or the right arrow of the ring to turn it off. The "ring" I refer to is the ring of four buttons that surrond the enter button in the center.
PLEASE NOTE: You have to do the sequence in a short time as the function goes back to starting mode when it times out. So know where these buttons are so you can complete the process before it clears itself. IF after you do this and the display at the final step shows "ON" above the words "LCD Backlight" and the backlight is NOT on, the phone has a defect. Please note that I have the ATT945 which is the four line version so the counts of presses MAY be different on yours, so look for the words on the display rather than depending on the counting of presses. If you go beyond the right one, you can use the up arrow of the ring to go back. You have about 15 seconds to COMPLETE the cycle or the phone drops back to the idle state. One does NOT have time to read instructions from the book as you will never be fast enough to beat the timeout.

There is a way to delete all calls in the Caller ID log. With the phone system in standby mode, press Menu/Select (key to the upper right of the arrow keys). Scroll (up/down arrows) to Caller ID log. Press Menu/Select again. Scroll to Del all calls and press Menu/Select. You should see a Delete all calls? Press Menu/Select to confirm. There is no corresponding way to delete all old speed dial or directory listings.
