SCREAN WHENT BLACK and power light is blinking

Your symptom sounds like a damaged convergence IC.

If this is the case the power LED should be blinking 3 times when trying to power the set up. You should be able to get a local service center to repair this at your house for between $350.00 - $450.00, If you want to repair this set yourself, I have some instructions below that will be a help to you. While it is not a very hard repair, this repair can be a bit tricky. If you have a 45W soldering iron, solder, solder wick, and heat sink compound you can repair it yourself. When you remove the old IC's, please be sure to remove all of the old heat sink compound, as it can act as an insulation for the new IC's and cause them to overheat. I usually clean the heat sinks with alcohol and a small rag. There are two and large IC's that control the convergence in a big screen set. Some of the newer sets only have one. If you only have one, it is right in the middle of the set on the center circuit board. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink. They will have a part number stamped on them that will start with an STKXXX-XXX, like STK392-110.Along with the convergence IC's there will also be some associated components that will need to be replaced as well. There are some resistors that are part of the convergence circuit that will be open and need to be replaced. Most likely these will appear charred in the center. If you have an Ohm Meter or a DVM, check all the resistors that are close to the IC's and you should be looking for either ones that have opened or have changed values. If one of the convergence IC's are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon. I usually order my parts from Andrews Electronics in California, they will have the OEM components that you will need.Their site is http://www.andrewselectronics.com/welcome.aspxAnd their phone number is a 24-Hour Order Desk: (800) 274-4666I recommend the phone order so you can talk to the person about the different types of IC's that are available.I would also advise that the convergence IC's be OEM or better, just because they are cheap does not mean that they are a good deal. I have seen the cheap IC's fail after a short time, even though they look exactly like the OEM IC's. I think that the bottom line is that you will get what you pay for when it comes to the parts. You can also try http://www.tvrepairkits.com/ , I have not tried them yet, but they do carry OEM or better parts.I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance please comment to this post and I will try to help you further. CERTIFIED TV EXPERT HERE, follow this information I provided 3 long solutions to this issue/s
Solution 1
Before we start taking things apart, lets try your simple remove power plug routine and power system back up. Also, please try your unit on a few different channels to see if your problem continues on each channel. Your Main Board, Power Board, T-Control Board are suspected problems at this time. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds, the unit should power down by itself after you have powered it on. If it does not, then do not be concerned. Let me know if the problem continues. The first link below will bring you directly to the troubleshooting guide if you need to continue forward with the same error. Lets focus on the external portion of the TV set first (95 percent of all TV problems are related to things EXTERNAL To the tv itself) Check the physical CONNECTION of all cables by removing each wire bare or RCA and reinstalling it (Each power cable as well), once you have removed one cable, check it for fraying, and if it is already bare, splice a new fresh connection for it. 5. Check to make sure there are NO OTHER uneeded radios, system nearby. these systems, when powered on, will cause electromagnetic interference and prevent more than just severe tv interference SURGE PROTECTOR Surge protectors account for more than 75 percent of electric faults to stereo equipment. Lets start with your AC Wall outlet. It is standard in america that 220 Volts from out of these outlets. This implies that each device will be using 220 Volts (From within that grid zone). If anything including an alarm clock is plugged into any AC outlet socket in the vicinity of the stereo equipment/TV, it will cause electric outage, and prevent electronics from even turning on! Your TV needs dedicated electric power. If your TV is located in the living room then unplug everything else in the living room. Lets plug the TV set into a Dedicated socket. Check all light switches to ensure that power is on for that outlet. Check the TV cable for Fraying both on the ac wall end and where it plugs into the TV. Check all GFCI outlets to ensure that all red reset buttons are pushed in, check the circuit breakers for proper connection and they are turned on. Now, lets try the TV set without it connected to any cable services, vcr, dvd, stereo system, etc. Please respond if we have found a solution.

When troubleshooting these units, there are always several variables to consider. First check to see what last occurred with the unit such as did the children play video games, did the electricity go out due to bad weather. You may see that there are many possibilities but let's focus on what occurred last to the unit. Once we determine what happened last, we may isolate the actual cause of the problem. The actual cause may be associated with projection issues, older versions (Picture tube), interference from devices located nearby, and even a radio turned on and located really close to your unit. This is normally known as electromagnetic interference to electronics and is very common with the error you have provided today. Please continue to look for anything EXTERNAL to the unit before looking at the internal components. I have been working on these a long time so feel free to follow up with me.

Television won't turn on and the power light

98% OF THE TIME 3 blinks (which is short protection) means one or both of the two STK-392-110 convergence IC's is shorted.

Both chips along with any of the dozen or so 2.2 ohm blue resistors around them that are bad need to be replaced and the set adjusted.

You can buy a pair of chips on Ebay for less than 13 dollars plus shipping.

I have start to finish, step by step instructions I can post here if you are able to do the repair yourself.

I have a set tomorrow very much like yours I am going to go repair--same problem. Most shops get 300 or more for this repair--It takes about one hour and should be able to be done right in your home.

If you get someone to do this repair---make sure BOTH chips get changed or you are going to have the same kind of problem in a few months.

If you want the instructions let me know and I will post them here for you.

If this information has helped you rate this solution and understand I do this here for free.

My t.v. is very blurry

carensimson,

You have a problem called "blooming" which is caused by a defect in the regulation circuit of the high voltage section. If you are not a technician you probably cannot troubleshoot it succsssfully as this is a hard problem to solve. You probably can change out the entire high voltage board if you are good with tools and concientious. I looked on http://www.encompassparts.com and they list a service manual and quite a few parts, some are no longer available. If they have the board you should be able to change it with my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4916851-diagnosing_repair_tv_high_voltage .

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Great ratings will help keep the experts here helping everyone.

You may not need to remove the red wires, normally there is enough slack to be able to turn the board over just enough to be able to remove the chips. See where the wires are running and losen any clips/ties holding them in place. If you still think you need to remove the red wires normally pushing down into the black thing and twisting 1/4 turn then pulling it out slowly will work on most of them. Some red wires have a metal clip on the end with tabs on them which requires twisting it to get the tabs lined up properly. others have no tabs at all and just require pulling out. I would error on the safe side and try the first method. good luck

I have a Panasonic PT-47wxc43

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The issue is with the convergence ICs going bad and needs to be replaced. It’s not a difficult job if you want to do this yourself, you should require some basic knowledge about soldering-resoldering components. To start with you’ll have to open the back of the unit and then blow the dust off. After this is done check the ICs which are located behind the black heat sink and also check the resistors as if they are short the ICs might blow again after sometime.

As you asked, the typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is around $300-$350. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Panasonic pt-53wv53g power light flashes 3 times

If you are getting the three red LED lights flashing then your symptom sounds like a damaged convergence IC.

If you want to repair this set yourself, I have some instructions below that will be a help to you.
While it is not a very hard repair, this repair can be a bit tricky. If you have a 45W soldering iron, solder, solder wick, heat sink compound, and some basic soldering skills, you can repair the television yourself.

I have repaired hundreds of these sets, so if you have any questions after reading the following, please reply to this post and I will help you in any way that I can.

With that aside I have some support suggestions that I have put together that may help you make an informed decision.

You should be able to get a local service center to repair this at your house for between $350.00 - $450.00, If you want to repair this set yourself, I have some instructions below that will be a help to you.
While it is not a very hard repair, this repair can be a bit tricky

How do I tell if the IC’s are damaged?
Since you cannot look inside of an IC, you will have to locate some of the components in the area around the convergence IC’s. You may be able to see some resistors that have changed colors or you test a resistor and it no longer reads the value marked by the color bands or the printed value. You will have to replace the IC’s and the supporting components.

When you remove the old IC's, please be sure to remove all of the old heat sink compound, as it can act as an insulator for the new IC's and cause them to overheat. I usually clean the heat sinks with alcohol and a small rag.

Where are the IC’s located and how do I find them?

Panasonic CT-36HX42F will not power on

If you remove just the lower half of the back cover (NOT THE UPPER PLASTIC COVER) you will see the power cord which is attached to the circuit board. Next to the power cord is the fuse, but be careful, this is not just a glass fuse you can buy anywhere. To make sure you order the right part go to www.mcmelectronics.com and go to OEM part finder. typed in your model number exactly how it is on the back and do your search. You will then see every part that is available through them that you can order. If you also notice you will see just above all those parts that they have a board location search. Look at the fuse in question and get the location number from the circuit board and type it into that search and you will have the correct part number shown to you, but if you look there is not a price listed. Copy the part number down and again go to www.mcmelectronics.com and on the top of the home part you will see a nice search bar where it will say enter part number or keyword here. Type or paste that part number into that and search. You will then be able to see how much the part is and if it is available. I do not work for MCM, but they are a great source in finding exactly what the part number is if your doing it by board location.
