TV just shut off.Red power light flashing on front

Have you tried unplug the power and then plug it back in?
I am also assuming this is an older TV (more than 3 years).
Have you replaced the lamp?
Did you open the back panel to take a look?
I can safely say there must be a lot of dust inside.
Blow the dust off with compressed air and see if that helps.

Ghosting - colored shadows - guns out of alignment?

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

My pt-47wx53 is working ok,

The set uses two STK-392-110 convergence chips and both will need to be replaced and the set adjusted with the Panasonic remote.

I have start to finish step by step instructions for this repair that tell you the best way to do it and everything that is needed. I do this kind of repair for a living and you can buy a pair of the chips on Ebay for about 12 dollars; total parts cost should be under 30 dollars.

It involves getting at the two chips and being able to unsolder them and solder the new ones in. I will attach photos of what they look like; A good idea is to (with the set unplugged) look inside and locate them--there are about a dozen light blue resistors in front and around them---most are 2.2 ohms and if any are discolored or white in the middle they will need to be replaced when you do the repair (they are easy to test--like testing a fuse).

There are two ways to get at them and mine is the best--some will tell you to remove the board they are on--lots of chance for mistakes this way.

This set has a "Light Box" that takes about 10 minutes to remove--it has everything except the speakers and front keyboard and with it removed it is a fairly easy fix--usually takes me about 40 minutes but I have done hundreds of them.

If you want the instructions let me know and I will post them here for you--I can (after you look at them) tell the name of the seller on Ebay I use.

Do not buy one of the "kits"; they are much more expensive and contain a lot of parts you will never need to have.

This is what the two chips look like; they will have the full number printed on them in white and be on metal heat sinks with fins side by side to each other.

Your convergence ICs have failed. Thats what causes the led to blink three times. The PT53WX53 convergence repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com will usually repair that issue. The kit also contains the CD with detailed repair instructions.

Is the screen and the glass blubs hard and

Yes. This is difficult and dangerous for an unskilled person. It takes several hours and an alignment. Most projection TVs are not worth spending the $500+ on a screen and the $100 - $500 each for picture tubes.

I television went out on me during a thunderstorm

If this has happened during a Thunderstorm , then, I fear that the set is Very Badly Damaged, this is usually the condition that they are in, anyway, when they arrive at my shop. This always causes a considerable amount of damage to all internal Chips and Semiconductors, and circuitry. This is most unlikely to be repairable any other way than by a professional. even apart from saftey issues It is my Professional Advice is to, take the unit, to a Panasonic approved repairer, ask for a free "Quote" before allowing any repair to proceed, this way at least, you can make a determination, as to repair or replace.
