PT-47WXD63 When powering on, the red

Sounds like a failed or at least failing power supply / power board inside the TV. Unfortunately this is a very difficult repair, and unless you are an electrician I would not recommend attempting it. You will want to contact a local TV repair person in your area if you are sure this is out of warranty, more on that in a bit here. This is actually the most common problem with this type of TV, I see it every day, it just happens - sometimes with new TVs and sometimes it takes many years for it to happen.

If you think it may still be under warranty please contact the manufacturer to file an RMA. If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.

If you want to attempt the repair yourself please let me know and I will get you the part number and a place you can purchase it from for what you need.

So sorry that I don't have better news but it is definitely a power issue internally.

Thanks
Tim

My Panosonic TV Model# PT-47WX42F

5 blinks is error code for short on 140 volt line inside the set; it usually means the Horz output transistor is shorted. If you have a ohm meter (used for checking fuses etc) there is a simple test to see if this is the problem.

Also associated with this is a bad capacitor near it (Location for the Transistor is C509 and the transistor should be location Q551)

Location numbers are printed on top of board near part; both parts are on (as seen from back) far right board near the large black part with big red wire coming out of the top.

Transistor is just to the left of it and cap forward about 3 inches.

If this information told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

I'm looking for SD Tech. The answers he's

Not easy on this "Fixya" site to get in touch with people.. Not impressed with the site layout at all.
I saw a post by him somwhere on here that stated to say something like "Help SD Tech" or something in the subject, so hopefully he will search for his name? and find that people are looking for him. Pretty inefficient, but I can't even post a question through 2 browsers, so I must be missing something myself.

Good luck, hope you find him, but if you have this TV, there is a great tutorial outside of Fixya here:

Hope this helps!

Power light come on no pic or sound

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded over.

Panasonic PT-47wx53, No power, 3 Blinks

Panasonic PT53WX42F with same problem. 3 blinks after power on for a few seconds, no picture or sound. Solution: replaced two convergence ICs (STK392-XXX) located on the large green printed circuit board. ICs are very large and screwed into two large heat sinks and soldered to board. Cost is approximately $6 each. Easy to replace if careful. May be able to access solder joints on bottom of board by removing screen on bottom of cabinet or simply remove 4 screws that anchor plastic holder to cabinet and tilt up. I did not disconnect any inter-board connections. Remove heat sink screws. Desolder using suction bulb or solder sucker. Works great. Finish off with solderwick braid if necessary to clear holes. 40 watt iron is enough do not apply too much heat to damage board lands. Remove IC. Clean heat sink by scraping away white heat sync compound. Apply generous amount of heat sync compound to new IC and coat evenly. Align and insert new IC holes, resolder with thin resin core solder being careful not bridge lands. Refasten to heat sink. Clean board and inspect for good joints and no bridging. Refasten plastic board holder. Carefully clean projection lenses while back is off tv. Power up and it should be fixed. Parts are obtainable on-line. Solder tools and board cleaner are available at Radio Shack or on-line also. I spent $20 on parts and supplies. This is not hard just a bit tedious. You can do it.

There could be a few things causing this. Does it happen if you take the batteries out of the remote, will it still change channels on it's own? It could be the remote acting up, but most likely it is the actual main board of the TV that is having hardware issues. Let me know if you have ruled out the remote for sure... Thanks Tim

The TV was working fine

consider looking at your manual for replacing the projection bulb. They don't last indefinitely and depending on how many hours of use yours gets, the bulb may fail when it heats up. My Sony projection tV had very similar sysmptoms and no indication of anything else wrong, If your tV is a few years old and gets good use I would at least think about it. My Sony was easily user serviceble and cost less than it would have for a service call.

There is an arc of varios colors at bottom 1/2 of

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
