I fixed the problem by not subscribing as wasting my money. I went to the library instead.

If it has a paper label on it That can cause the rubbing sound. Is it only this one DVD or will non play? Try using a cleaning disk to remove mess from the laser eye, as well as cleaning this problem disk with a suitable disk cleaning kit

Your optical lens needs a tune up or it has reached its maximum shooting power. Send ur unit for tune up, if still same then its time for a new lens.

You can try a lens cleaning kit. If it is the kind that comes as a disc all it will do is lightly brush the lens which may not remove all the debris. If you disassemble the player you can easily get to the laser lens. It will usually be fairly accessible once you remove the DVD case. Sometimes it may be located within another box that needs to be disassembled before you can gain access to the laser. The laser unit will be located on a rail system and will have a small clear lens about the diameter of the eraser on a pencil. You can gently clean it with a cotton swab and lens cleaner or rubbing alcohol works just as well. Try that first before buying the lens cleaning kit or replacing the player.

It should be in the dark plastic area. Shine a flashlight in there and look for the IR receiver. You should see it easily. Otherwise, take the remote and get a piece of card board and cover the entire plastic area. Then start aiming the remote and clicking it to do something it can do. When the IR receiver is uncovered it will do something. Remember the area and shine the falshlight in there and you will see it.

This is one of those fixes that makes you feel really stupid. We called Best Buy (where we purchased the system) and they told us to unplug the DVD player and plug it back in again. It worked! Duh!
