DVD player turns Off after few seconds shows problem with power supply board that will be replaced to solve the problem, it happens when main filter capacitors gets leak/ busted.
Please check underneath DVP-NS700, there is hole for manual eject of disc tray, put flat screw driver in that hole and turn it to eject disc tray manually, below image will give you better idea.

More than likely this is an inner system malfuction of the dvd player the owner can try buying and using a cleaning disc for the dvd player, but if that does not correct the problem it is probably beyond his ability to self repair.

This could just be a dirty laser lens. Turn the unit on and open tray. While the tray is open unplug the unit without turning off so the tray stays open. Remove the cover and under the disc clamp is the optical pick up assembly. The lens can be cleaned gently with a alcohol dampened q-tip. The lens should look clear not hazy. If this does not help the whole pick-up assembly will have to be replaced. There are no adjustments that can be made on these, they are factory set. Go to www.encompassparts.com and click on guest log in, or http://servicesales.sel.sony.com (search is in the upper right, make sure to change drop down menu to psrt number) and use this part number A-6062-705-A to get prices.

Check your cables to your TV. If possible check the various cables to your set. I would suggest using the HDMI cable if your TV has an HDMI input. Remember to power off all devices before connecting your cables. If I may ask which cable are you using to connect between your Tv and the DVD player?

Possibly a bad, or more likely, a damaged disc.

It's not uncommon, especially with often abused rental copies.

Tell Blockbuster - they should give you a credit on the rental.

Depending what cables you have, try plugging only the yellow cable into "video out", I previously had red, white, and yellow cables plugged into "comopents out" and only got black and white. Doing only the yellow into video out gave me color.
